Simple fact if city want promotion this year Sam Baldock must stay,he will be in the championship next year in a stadium as good as the amex. What is the point in building the best squad in the division, then decide to sell your top goal scorer. What would that look like to the quality signings we have made. I hope city turn all bids down,Sam says he is very happy hear and that he wants to stay.
I'm having doubts about this, so far preseason everything is going well. I thought we might escape the attention for him but they seem a bit determined now for my likening
Wish they will hurry up with their fire sale, I want to pick some of their players in the new clubs for my fantasy team.
I would like a very clear statement IMMEDIATELY, from SL that no-one is leaving City during this window. Unless the fee is over £10 million and the destination is Premiership or foreign equivalent.
This is starting to feel eerily similar to the Nicky Maynard affair although I do think Sam is showing more respect to City by his comments. I genuinely feel that he wants to be settled for his family's sake and that must be the sign of a satisfied player. Hang on to your hats this coming week and let's just see what happens and hope it all works out for the best.
Any noise about a new contract being put in front of Sam? The last thing we need is another Maynard situation.........give the man an improved contract now to stop that kind of nonsense happening again.
Bristol City FC (@bcfctweets) 04/08/2014 16:29 NEWS: Bids for Sam Baldock have been "derisory" says #BristolCity manager Steve Cotterill. "He seems happy here." pic.twitter.com/8WAbjZmXmT
Every player has a price, and that's something this club fails to grasp. We often make a huge noise about bigger clubs poaching our talent, but other clubs get away with it just fine when they slap ridiculous price tags on their players. I'd be happy for us to sell Baldock if the fee was fitting. I'd expect a fee of at least £4m for him. He's not worth that much in the open market, but it would take £4m overall for a club like Bristol City to replace him and achieve our goals. Any time a club says no, a bid will eventually be made that gains the attention of the player, and then the player will inevitably go. What we should do is assert our dominance, state that we're not a selling club, and that to us Baldock is worth £5m in the open market. That way, we're able to be negotiated down to £4m and can then sell up and replace our captain with players that in the open market could tear League 1 apart. For £4-5m we could buy a top youngster or strengthen a number of areas. I'm glad to see commitment from our players, but I still feel that the club is very naive in the transfer market.
Sam hasn't been himself this season... like his mind is else where! I have a feeling he will be off this week with Brighton his destination.....
Have you thought that he does not want to move but maybe feels that if a very good offer comes in, City will encourage him to move even though he does not want to. That alone could be unsettling him.
Have a feeling that, if Sam is still here on 2nd Sep, we will see a different player once there are no mental distractions for him. While he is working just as hard I wouldn't blame him if he is not as focused or relaxed at the moment. A lot of a footballer's form does seem to be in the head for some reason. It might not even be a conscious thing but it will be good for all concerned to draw a line under all this speculation.
Still be interested to know if the offer of an extended contract was there?- If not, why not and if there was, why doesn't he sign it?- Either way, at least when the transfer window shuts, we can move on. Until January when it opens again.
To use the words of Rush, "even if you choose not to decide you still have made a choice". Not quite sure what I am trying to say with those words but it is probably because I love Rush!
hopefully Brighton signing a £1 million striker may now end Sammys bids and he can concentrate on us, fingers crossed
