Brian's Predictions League 2022/23 Rules and Postings Thread After the shortest of all breaks it all starts up again in three weeks time. With a new set of teams and, initially, no form to go on unless teams continue their form from last season. Who will be the front runners and who will struggle - difficult to say at this stage. The rules and scoring for our league on here are the same as last season (unless anyone has ideas for improvements). One idea I had was to completely open up the league and allow posters to tip 10 fixtures from anwhere (as long as they are from leagues where I can look up the results) this would mean we could all be tipping different matches (apart from Watford which we would all tip). In this case the bonus for the unique scoreline would disappear entirely. Could do with feedback on that idea - if nothing comes back then it will all be the same as usual this year. It all starts up on Friday night the 29th of this month, with a long weekend of games culminating with the Hornets on the following monday night. Normally I will avoid friday and monday night fixtures unless Watford are involved in them. In this case extra fixtures will be brought in from other leagues to make up the ten. Rules are the same as usual - no copying other posters - you tip results (scorelines) and score points (or not). Posters are free to edit tips until games have actually kicked off. Our expert from the BBC (Lawro) won't be taking part this time - unless I get the idea that my alternative plan has a positive response. The points on offer are as follows: 10 points per round for remembering to tip. 3 points for each correct home win eg. you tip 1-0 and it is actually 2-0 (etc.) 3+5 (8) points for the correct score difference eg. 1-0 against 2-1. 25 points for a completely correct scoreline eg. 2-1 against 2-1. 5 points for a correct away win eg. 0-1 against 0-2 (thereafter 5 extra points for correct score difference) eg. 0-1 against 1-2 wins 10 points. 4 points for correctly predicting draws plus 5 bonus points for the correct score difference ie. 9 points in all (unless it's spot on eg. 1-1 against 1-1 in which case it's 25 like any other correct scoreline. An extra 10 points is on offer for a unique scoreline eg. the result is 3-2 and you are the only poster to tip that result for a particular match. (If the number of posters is too few eg. less than 18 then this bonus will disappear). All points scored on Watford matches are doubled so the absolute maximum possible on one match is 70 points. 2 x 25 points and 2 x the 10 point bonus in the event of a unique scoreline. You have a joker which can be placed on any one of the other 9 matches and what you score on this will be doubled as if it was a Watford fixture. As in the past it is not allowed to repeat the same scoreline more than 4 times in one round - eg. if you tip 5 1-0 home wins the fifth would be deleted. In this context 1-0 is not counted as being the same as 0-1. If a poster picks up points on all 10 fixtures in any one round then they get a 50 point bonus (this hasn't happened so far). Confused ? Don't worry just tip scorelines and let me do the work ! The fixtures for the first round will appear in the next post.
Thanks Cologne..... Brilliant..... i would prefer for us all to tip the same games... more fun/despair when comparing yourself with others. But bring it on......
You are a star ! However, I do think (still) that anyone who - successfully - tips WFC to lose has their points DEDUCTED. ( This is so I get a chance , since I cannot bring myself to do that). Cheers
Marvellous. Mrs Fez and I kindly request that the fixtures for tipping between 12th and 27th August are posted well in advance as we'll (hopefully) be in Vietnam for most of August. Not sure what the Wi-Fi situation will be, let alone 3G. No "bolt-on" with o2 out there, alas. Cheers!

Thanks again Cologne for undertaking yet another season, I have read the scoring which I do each season and it seems to be getting easier to follow. It may be me as I get older but I can't see what points are awarded for predicted draws. Blackburn v QPR 2-1 Blackpool v Reading 2-1 Cardiff v Norwich 1-3 Hull City v Bristol City 1-0 Luton v Birmingham 1-1 Millwall v Stoke City 2-0 Rotherham v Swansea 1-2 J Middlesbrough v West Brom 2-1 Sunderland v Coventry 2-0 Watford v Sheff Utd (Aug 1st) 3-1
I will edit it later Charlie - the points for draws are 4 points eg. if you tip 1-1 and it turns out as 0-0 2-2 etc plus the 5 points for the correct score difference = 9 in all. obviously spot on scorelines score the full 25 just like any other match.
