Ooh. Incredibly close in Newcastle. 63,598 to 65,404 in favour of remain.

Predictions said it would be a comfortable win for remain, something like 70%.

This will be a dividing referendum for sure. Might even get my dream of Yorkshire independence if Yorkshire as a whole votes leave and the UK votes remain.

Sunderland voted to leave, 82,394 to 51,930. 61%.

Massive win, puts Leave in front for the first time.

Think I said 62%. ****ing hell that's massive considering Newcastle voted so closely.

Some **** on Twitter just said 'Sunderland you're disgusting'.

Looks like I'm right in thinking this will completely divide Britain. People have so much contempt just because of a referendum.

I'm not going to get excited but if we do leave, I'll love the absolute meltdown people on Twitter and Facebook will have. They'll have to cancel their gap years to go travelling across Europe. Lmao.

Cameron is in a right lose-lose regardless whether he gets his way or not.

What, fixing a country where half the population despises the other? The ****'s sown the seeds of this.

Pound down 6% in last few minutes - traders getting rid of Sterling after two north east results

It's going to likely fluctuate all night as the results come in.

agreed but announcements like North Warks being 75% leave and Nuneaton being over 80% leave are going to put further pressure on Sterling
