That he lacks creativity like most of our midfield. Even ignoring talents, we simply lack any energy across the midfield. Just needs a complete overhaul
To simplistic view. He’s not there to get assists. He’s there to break the lines with his passing and take the ball from the defence and progress us up the pitch with his passing. He’ll be the guy that plays the ball through to someone else on edge of the box to help create a chance. Rather than the one putting in crosses. Classic example is the one disallowed few years ago v Everton. Thiago pass through the lines to mane on edge of the box who lets it run through then crosses for Hendo to put in. It was disallowed for stupid offside, but those are the passes thiago makes that no one else does.
When so many players are underperforming simultaneously, along with the whole team performances being consistently sh*t week in week out, with us conceding the 3rd most big Chances in the league, this tells me this is a system / tactical issue more than anything. either Klopp is trying to play the same way as 18-20 but simply doesn’t have the right profile of player, or he’s tweaking the tactical side of things but is simply not suited to the existing players
Agree with you on Thiago. He’s not the issue. He is genuinely world class. The issue is not supplementing him with other world class midfielders. Previously we could get back with just Thiago and fab running midfield and carrying the third. Unfortunately, players get older and we really need some legs next to them.
yes he has the only thing saving his arse last night was an average ball in off left foot that ox knocked in. he was pish.
now: robertson's comments are interesting (but from a defender's point of view) he said the following: didn't learn form kick up the arse on friday. first half no runs in behind. (nunez, ox is not even up there, where is salah) first half nobody high and wide. (aka OX, playing lcm not lw, really narrow and deep. where was salah???) First half, could not keep the ball in the "half spaces" (this half space ****e bascially means the slots where lcm and rcms should be linking up. its not bang in the middle and its not out on the touch line. Who is in there? Well thiago and elliott of course. but ox and trent and others drifting in and out of these spaces please log in to view this image first half lost the second balls, couldn't keep the ball - basically not hitting people the second they receive a pass and not being sharp to get chase down the ball. However these are all "offensive issues" so form a defenders perspective its always someone elses fault. He doesn't go much into the set piece calamity where nobody could pick up their assigned man irrespective of silly little stand at the back stick tactic. Go ****ing pick up your ****ing man and hold him. Anyway. according to robbo the forwards didn't run, so the passing was slow. they midfielders couldn't hold the ball and lost the half space areas so the game broke down there.
As usual, the criticism is overdone. Have to agree with Klopp that it could well have been a draw: we missed some great chances and they capitalised on a few of our errors. Had we scored that golden chance with DN, the match would have taken a different complexion. And why the huge depression? Because it was Brentford ? The same Brentford that demolished Man Utd and deservedly beat City at the Etihad? One thing was evident though. We should have been able to cope more with their physicality. We looked too vulnerable at set pieces. Did we not anticipate and prepare for the “chaos”? Just learn the lessons and move on. Not even half way through the season yet.
I suggest guest presenters. We take turns, but the thread must be as a famous person/character would do it.
