bad pressure..... roberto martinez had a terrible track record at wigan then went to everton and turned a decent defensive side into total rubbish. Real coaches coach. they don't coach one half of football. thats my view.
You're both right imo. The managers tactical approach will define whether a side is defensively vulnerable or not, the likes of Rodgers and Martinez want their sides to be attacking and somewhat gung ho (I'd include Klopp in that as well tbh) which will always mean they'll have more chance of being caught on the counter. However, that's not the full picture, as Martinez for example didn't even bother having defensive drills for corners ffs! So if he'd have brought in a defensive coach at least the they would have focused on the drills and repetitions that are vital if you're to have a cohesive defensive unit. Ultimately that doesn't alter the overall vulnerability which is driven by the managers chosen tactics, but it does mean that when on the back foot the defensive unit at least knows what they're supposed to be doing!
Well, we used to call them managers - not head coaches or whatever. A manager has to co-ordinate other people so everyone works together to effect his own overall philosophy. I see no harm in bringing in specialist coaches in areas that the manager himself is not an expert in. That is management, in my book.
Yep. They would struggle in the championship. Celtic is the biggest club in the SPL yet their revenue and capital value are dwarfed by all clubs in the premiership and many in the championship. In terms of competiveness I think their place is Division 1 (the thrid tier of English football). One of the reasons is that the teams they play against week after week are not even division 1. Inverness CT, Hamilton academicals, Ross County? Since Rangers have been demoted to the lowest leagues, the standards in scottish football have really fallen. Celtic used to have 4 highly competive games in the season but in the last few years they did not even have those. Rodgers post match interview: Celtic have not been embarassed but their pride has been dented. Eh? Explain? I miss those post match interviews at Anfield
I like both of the guys, and I think they progressed both of their clubs incrementally. But it has to be said, Neill Lennon wouldn't have set up for that last night. Rogers can only really fail in Europe now. They'll keep getting cricket scores in the league, and that's nice, I suppose. That said, he did set us up well for the reurn leg against madrid, albeit be dropping several star players and, totally against his beliefs, playing to a defensive system.
And to think. Less than a decade ago they wanted to join the English leagues and get an automatic bye into the top flight.
too late now. clubs i nthe championship spending 10mil on players now.. its all gone mad. celtic and rangers wouldn't be able to complete.
I must say. Although I don't see many footie shirts in the US. I would say Celtic are already in top 10 in support in US (based on shirts I see people wearing).
they are all oirish running about. If celtic HAD been in the prem they might be but..... well bit late now. Also they are with repsect just supported nominally be travelling paddys and as such simply woudl have nothing like the support of LFC. Top 6 richest is i think too big and ask... sure if they had same time in prem as stoke they'd be up there but then sho should newkie....
Well almost every white American I've ever met has told me he's "Scotch"-Irish. Americans are obsessed with thinking they're "Scotch"-Irish.
That just means they are mean ****ers. The scotch means they want to think they are royalty. the irish means they are ginger pubed You should ask dirtyfrak about the plantations and what a scots-irish really looks like.
If it helps, i live in carlise, and i bob up to scotland to watch the odd match. Celtic are lower first division, most of the rest of the league would get tonked by Carlisle, i would but them conference at best. If you go to a scottish match you will get a bad neck from seeing the ball in the air so much. wimbledon where a passing side in comparison
