Stevie Wonder was awesome up until 'I just called to say I love you' - I now judge him for writing that unforgiveable song.... I will judge Rodgers similarly - unforgiveable.
Scott, Valley Stereo, I'm with you on this one. While I appreciate and tank Rodgers for his work in moving us as a club forward. But I do think it is a move too early in his short managerial career. I've said before what really bugs me as all ready mentioned is the blarney he keeps coming out with, you could swear he's the second coming. The unrest at the club is whats bothering me, talks of Allen and Sinclair being un happy. Too me if they feel that way then they can bugger off, clubs bigger than them. Rodgers making sound bits about Siggy, he should sign for Swansea then in the same breath, if he's then available then I'm interested. That's basically telling Siggy to **** Swansea off and come to Liverpool. I've moved on now and look froward to the appointment of our new manager, who will get my full backing who ever it may be.
I was all for wishing Buck well, he deserves his chance and it may never have come around again. We would all do the same, if a bigger job with more money came up, don't deny it. But, after reading the story "If Siggy doesn't sign for the Swans, I'm interested", I am now all for the bastard crashing and burning, big time. He's a backstabbing ****er of the first order and I will never have a good word for him again. So, who can come up with a decent song for him when he visits?
Stevie didn't do "I just Called" last night, thank god. One of my fave artists of all time but that is one of the worst songs ever written. Scott: "by leaving he has directly and single-handedly created a possibility of catastrophic failure at the club I love (due to potentially hiring the wrong manager)." How is it Rodgers's fault if HJ signs the wrong man? People move on, and it seems to happen more in the Prem than anywhere else. If we're here to stay we'd better get used to it. Rodgers does have the irksome habit of ingratiating himself with the fans by swotting up on the 'right things to say' wherever he may be, so I agree he doesn't come across as the most genuine of persons to those he's left behind, in this case, the Swans fans. He's a bit like Martin O'Neil in that, who is another blarney-master Northern Irishman. We should let this go now even if we can't or won't wish him well (I will not be doing so) but recognise his impressive achievements with us and be grateful for that. I'm excited about who we're going to get as we're a great proposition for a young, hungry and talented manager.
The threads about Rodgers will probably continue until the new man comes in ,then I would think a new focus on how well he'll do ,who will he bring in etc ,Time is a healer and some need more than others I would guess
Well, it's indirect, but if he hadn't left we wouldn't need to appoint a new manager. I don't think another year would have hurt Rodger's career long term, even if we were to be relegated.
I don't get this "We'd not have begrudged Rodgers his move if he'd stayed with us for another year". I've read that a lot. What would be so different? I bet you a pound to a pinch of **** that the haters would still have come out in force. Whatever. We should all be concentrating on who will now take us to the next level, not someone who is now part of our history.
That's how I feel and every person I've asked has agreed so far. If he'd have left next year, he WOULD have established us as a PL team, I'm sure. 2nd season in the Premiership, continuity, Sigurdsson, maybe Caulker again - all of that jeapordised now because he's a career man.
Absolutely right, Cracker. Never met an ambitious manager who wasn't a 'career man'. You're naive if you think anything else, Scott. No offence. As for "every person I've asked has agreed so far" then you've not been reading the board. Opinion seems rather split.
Nothing wrong with ambition knackered, but we should move on now, he's with another team **** him ! We need somebody with us who is equally as ambitious it will improve his CV and will improve us along the way, it's a two way street we both benefit.
I meant everybody I'd asked so far in person. Different demographics? I'm hardly naive, and everyone has a career. I've spent the last 2 weeks explaining why I feel this way but everyone keeps picking one sentence to argue against. I'm not denying he did really well and deserves credit, and I'm not ruling out the possibility of being better next season, but IF he'd stayed I think there's no way we'd have been relegated, and purely for footballing and financial stability reasons I think it's very harsh of him to leave now. If he was 55, fair enough, but he's a young manager who's only achievement so far is with the club he's just left. We're clearly not going to agree, so I'll finish by saying "I think he could have easily given us another year without damaging his career". If that makes me naive, so be it!
"there's no way we'd have been relegated" How do you know this? Was he ever going to do better than 11th? From his point of view he may have thought his stock was never going to be higher. Even if I'm wrong you have to agree there was a risk we'd do worse next season. Saying he should have had another year when one of the biggest clubs in the world came in for him is a big ask. Perhaps one thing we can agree on is that, as Valley says, our next manager is more important to us now.
"One of the biggest clubs" - depends how you look at it! Won nothing but cups for years and had a **** year, I'd say it's a very easy time to go there! As has been said, big jobs come up every year - Spurs will be available soon and I think that's a club much more suited to him! Anyway. Bored of this now.
Tend to agree with Scott here. I'm fully appreciative of what Rodgers did for us but the timing of his departure has the potential to damage us badly, of which he would have been fully aware - and the Siggy issue leaves a bad taste in the mouth. It would be rather nice to appoint a high profile manager who would see us comfortably establish ourselves in the PL. And it would be nicer still if we could finish above Liverpool. In a football sense I will always be grateful for his contribution to our club but, as a person, he has diminished greatly in my eyes. Now I'm quite happy to move on from him.

What's your problem Casual? I have given my view as I see it, wrongly or rightly, and it might be diametrically opposed to the original OP, but it's my view, that will either stand or fall in the fullness of time. I simply don't see him as some do as a great manager, maybe because I was never keen on him in the first place, but he had the good sense to keep things ticking over, and strengthen the forward line, and that's about it, if you want to get carried away like many pundits and commentators have with all the media bull, then go ahead, and be my guest, but as far as I see it, he's not a man of his word, and plays the media better than Martinez, and that's saying something!............................ .
