Nooooooooooo! Unless it's performance related: half of what you get now for Saturday type performances...0 a week for the rest of this years performances! Then fair enough.....
Quite pitiful of a fan to worry about whether a player is gonna get £100k or £75k a week on his new contract. If you don't want GJ at LFC, ok. If you insist he should be a bench player, ok. Just let's not bitch about £1m give or take.
When your club is leaking 40mill a year because of hugely over paid players, meaning that your club is barely holding onto FFP rulings - of course you look at the top earners and ask what they're doing here. Johnson alone is costing 6-7mill and he's been shocking for 18months. You've got to watch your wage bill and especially your spending (we're not Chavski or City who can just buy and pay players whatever the **** they want and not care, covering losses with oil baron money), you have to look at total costs of players - and that includes wages. Sometimes that means selling high earners to be able to buy fresh, younger and cheaper blood, and sometimes it's offloading the older or poorer performers. Point 1: He isn't giving the performances expected for what what other players on that wage are giving. Point 2: Can we get better for the same value or better? If yes, then Johnson has to go. If no, then can we give him a performance based contract (lower base wage) so we at least get our moneys worth. It's not pitiful. It's fans taking an interest and questioning what's going on at the club.
It's the message it sends to the players. Wages are indicative of how the player is rated by management. Just like transfer fees. On that basis it matters to fans in general, more so I would suggest to season ticket holders who pay comparatively significant proportions of their wages to see that dross. Put it another way, how would you tell the Like's of Sterling or Hendo they're only worth x after their season if Glen keeps getting 30k more than them? Like it or not it's footballs measurement of valuation and fans are allowed to express their opinions in terms of "he's not worth ....."
If re-signed for 75k or 100k, 60k or 90k, makes no big difference and shouldn't be a poster's main point. Wages are generally on the up anyway. If Rodgers wants to keep him - and that's the main decision - Johnson may very well hold him to "one of the best in the world" opinion and demand wages in that range. That point should be a footnote to your main point: not wanting him in the first team, or not wanting him at all.
In the end for me the question has to be; is this a cl play? Experience, squad depth, contract length, what terms are all questions..... I would sell him if we had a ready made player to play cl. We don't yet so I expect we might hang on until contract runs out unless someone offers hard cash.....
Again it's an expression of how they/I rate the player. And it's valid. I express that I may tolerate the player on a lower pay because that's what I believe he's earned. It's my judgement on his performance this year. Same point if someone states he's not worth 110k a year. Interestingly you used the same method of valuation in a separate post to express your distaste for another of our players cissoko so is it ok as long as you do it? *You OP about renewing CONTRACTS *You then gave an opinion about BR's views on player. *People gave opinions on CONTRACT. Perfectly reasonable to select any part of OP to discuss since you made no additional comment in OP to narrow or focus the discussion. Calling people pathetic for their focus or dictating conditions for posting in this thread after people post is irrelevant to OP and bad manners. By all means disagree about our valuations of player. By all means state your opinion that you focus on other areas other than contract details. Doesn't make you more right. You want a narrow discussion be more precise in your thread creation.
Wages as mirrors of player contribution? Not quite. Never been quite. Not possible due to the multi-year nature of a contract. A player approaching prime, in the last years of his youth contract, is severely underpaid with respect to his contribution. Whilst a player in his twilight years, and still on that contract he signed in his prime, is much overpaid. A player who ends up as a seldom used sub is also grossly overpaid relative to his contribution. As is especially the case with an oft injured player.
We don't get along fella that is clear but you are entitled to your opinion. However if you are going to continue to insult respected posters on here then I will ask that you stop, we've built up a friendly community over the years. There will be spats on occasion but a poster who makes a point of insulting people who do not agree with him on every given occasion is not welcome. Think before posting, Frank did not insult you he only questioned/disagreed there was no need to insult him.
Johnson seems to catch a lot of flack on here, understandable partly because of his disappearing acts, he's not a stylish player which doesn't help his cause and not very dynamic, however he is a solid enough player, has experience and doesn't often make massive mistakes. Would be alright with him getting a new contract with reduced wages but think there needs to be more competition for the position. Can't be as bad as Cleverly and Fellaini this evening, absolute trash.
I'm not going to get into it, just take it on board and think before posting people on here may disagree with you, those people are entitled to an opinion.
Of course they are, and Frank especially gets major kudos from me as a poster, despite our minor divergences in opinion. However, Luv, let me tell you... it is quite pitiful that you're getting ticklish on a matter as trifling as my use of the word 'pitiful'.
I'm not being specific to Frank, there are many posters on here that you constantly insult, they are all capable of answering your comments. I will if needed ask posters to think about their comments and have done so with many people on here, they tend to take it on board even if they do not agree. I'm asking that you consider my request.
