We knew Suarez was leaving for almost a year, and Sturridge is injury prone. Rodgers is a mug if he thought we could simply replicate what we did last season, or make Sturridge the main man.
FFS It was deliberate. Ore instead of awe, metal instead of mettle. I'm wasted on here. And I don't mean pissed.
A little run of form and Rodgers is saved It overlooks his poor use of £100m and flash in the pan CL run
Ok, so what part of... "starting Lucas at DM, playing Sakho even through his mistakes so he can grow, playing Can in the team, dropping/managing Gerrard or shoving him upfield out of the way, playing Henderson in the middle instead of Lucas, playing anyone up front rather than Mario or Lambert so we have some movement and pressing up top. I mean, we've literally been wanting these changes for months through the awful football, performances and losses, so my worry is why it takes Brendan so long to get there? Praise him all you want, but he should spot these things within a few weeks at the most..." do you disagree with? Those are things many posters here have been wanting time after time on every match thread. It's arrogant to suggest that it was only me, therefore I'm amazing and should be the next manager. It's coincidence if two or three people identify the same problems. It's downright dumb management when half the board here (supposedly normal fans and most likely are not in any way qualified to do the same job) are identifying and suggesting what changes they'd make months prior to Rodgers doing it. And please, there's a big difference between 'telling' him what to do and him only now changing things we 'identified' months ago. Big difference.
Because there isn't any consensus, the solution has never been self-evident. If you read carefully through what people say then there are a wide number of views offering different solutions to the problems. I have my own. They are my opinions, I don't for a moment think they are obvious facts and the manager should see things the way I do. Sakho is probably the best person from the above list to illustrate my point, but there are similar differences of opinion on everyone and everything. For everyone advocating bringing him in, there were some who were alarmed by his awkwardness and propensity for the occasional, dangerous gaffe. There were arguments about whether or where to play Gerrard, Markovic, Lucas etc etc. The only full agreement was over GJ ( I must admit, his continued inclusion was baffling). We don't have all the answers, and we don't have to justify our preferences if they fail, whereas the manager does. I think his job is a lot harder than many on here are willing to understand. Do you really think he is so thick that he can't see the things that we consider obvious?
I can't think of many other possible explanations as to why anyone would consider playing Balotelli, Gerrard, Johnson and Lovren in the same team so often when all four underperformed and the team was completely static. I never mentioned consensus. I said many posters. You're welcome to browse the match threads in October-November to the posts (usually 3-5 pages in) where people comment on the team lineup. The people who considered his selections questionable and posed lineups they would rather see were fairly numerous. Those lineups (albeit in different formations) aren't far off what we're seeing now. It's like the wife wanting the white walls painting and you want green to match the sofa. She goes through blue, then purple, then red, yellow, indigo, orange and then settles with green...got there in the end, but questionable why anyone would try red walls with a green sofa.
Too many question marks to give him a pat on the back, yes technically, he has done well, but it needed that surge in fan disquiet to scare the ejjit David Brent pikey to actually change course. I've see oil tankers change direction faster than him. If it wasn't for everyone losing patience, he'd still be playing Gerrard every game, Lucas would be gone, and Johnston would have a new 5 year contract. If the short arsed plank doesn't give Flanno a new contract, I'll still be in favour of ditching the gypo come May.
One thing is certain, no one on here would be playing this 3 cb system with wing backs - 99% of people on here hate that system but he has identified it as the best way to get us winning for now. That's why he is a PL manager with a top job and we are fans with opinions
So, let me get this right. Van Gaal played three at the back because the fans wanted him to, Brendan saw United get into top four so copied van Gaal ?
The travelling utd fans got on his case all through the first half and demanded 4-4-2 and he changed from a 3 to a 4 in the 2nd half and snatched the points, he wouldn't give the supporters credit though by pretending the tactical change was down to him.
I fail to see what is so difficult to comprehend in what I'm saying, nor why people read between every single line posted to come up with 18 instead of 2 for 1+1. I shall make this very simple. Many people (and this is very much correct) on this board commented on his awful team selections and players who got game time seemingly regardless of performance level - and have done so since October. This is very much a fact and non debatable. Rodgers persists with such players and has not only awful results, but dire team performances to coincide with it. Again, very simple. Plenty of fans (again, on here) discussed how certain players should be dropped and others brought in to the team instead, either just because the first set were playing ****, because the balance looked wrong or because from what they can see from watching the game they simply weren't running/pressing/moving as a unit. Lots of evidence of this. Rodgers gets to mid December and - primarily due to injuries - ends up with a team without those 'certain' players and with the 'others' brought in instead. We magically start seeing better performances from the team as a whole; results shortly follow. I'm not proclaiming myself to be a football genius, nor am I suggesting anyone else on this board who discussed similar issues to be either. I'm not saying Rodgers should be fired (never have done). I'm not saying he's totally inept. I'm not saying I could do a better job. I'm not saying he should listen to fans either ( morons who claim that I believe he should because they can't read properly.). I am simply asking why, when it takes a professional football manager 3 months to get it right by simply dropping players fans had been wanted dropped for 2 months, did it take him so long to rectify what many other non-qualified people could see? It's not rocket science; play Gerrard, Balotelli, Johnson and Lovren and we played poorly/lost. Drop them and we played better/won. Ergo, any sane manager would stick with what was working. Somewhere in all of this there's the formation switch which no one had considered changing too - so he can receive praise for that, of course. Just like with players in this club, I praise where it's due and criticise equally for the opposite. My posting history reflects that. We're allowed to ask questions.
Great post, we are on a discussion forum afterall And by the way, we have had good results and credit to Rodgers and the players but we still have a long way to go. We havent achieved anything yet so questions may well still be asked for the 2nd part of the season, hope not obv and hope it all goes swimmingly
I know this Just read Astro`s post again, it seems to suggest that van Gaal is an inept manager because the fans wanted him to change his formation yet Brilliant Brendan has followed him
WTF are you on about Van Brent plays 5-3-2 (until the crowd tells him to go 4-4-2), Rodgers plays 3-4-1-2
