It's all gone pear shaped for him. Just goes to show how quickly fortunes can change in the modern game. Rodgers for the sack? Unthinkable six months ago. Pity, aye?
It is a pity, some of the senior people there should be taking him aside and giving advice at this point. I don't want him to go but feel that over the next few weeks things wont really improve we than play Utd and if that goes badly he's lost the fans completely and will get the push.
I agree .he's a decent manager and by accounts a decent man. If he does get the push I wonder how that will affect his future prospects although I'm sure he won't be unemployed for long but probably won't be as a PL manager imo.
Gerrard for me is the main problem with Rodgers trying to play passing football. Just like Shelvey, he creates an imbalance and prefers to put in a long ball instead.
I'd go as far as saying that Jonjo is now a better player than Gerrard. Gerrards legs have gone. He looked very very slow last night against a side that would struggle in the championship.
Don't know about that. For a young player Shelvey is sluggish even when brought on as a sub - is that mental or physical? Gerrard is apparently still one of the fittest guys in the squad. I'm thinking more about these players' ability to fit with a pass and move style of play, which is how we play best and what Rogers has tried to do with 'Pool. They both prefer to hit long balls.
Just seen this on the Everton board - their thread "Brendan sack watch": Made me smile God-king Brendan last looked out on the slip of Steven when they passed the ball about and the scores were even Gerrard slipped and Ba stole in life is sometimes cru-el his last chance to win the prem what a fecking too-oo-l
I just don't share the joy and exultation that is clearly doing the rounds re Rodgers,or anyone else, getting the sack. There's something quite sick, and unfathomable, about such behaviour.
I think it's down to "direction" .... do the powers that be think that Rogers has lot his momentum, has he lost the players' enthusiasm, is his blarney (they must have all noticed - from the guys that the cut the grass to the owners) more than his substance, and most importantly is he getting the most value out of the squad that he has. The last one is the ultimate business question, the others are more about leadership and is he still effective in that regard. 'Pools performance against Palace was terrible. There was no cohesion about that performance at all. They played nothing like they were playing last season in terms of quality, shape and style. Rogers must take responsibility for that. If it's one off then ok, but if that was the worst effort in a down trend of efforts then perhaps Rogers has lost his ability to connect, motivate and lead the players .... and as a result he's going to struggle to get value out of the squad he has. The one thing we don't know is player transfer protocol at 'Pool and to what extend does Rogers drive that or is driven by that. Are they going to punish him for losing the power of Suarez on the field. Somebody made the decision to sell Suarez and it wasn't Rogers. As I have often said ... money in the bank is never equivalent to the value of a pair of boots on the field ... and as our lesson with Scotland demonstrated, replacing a scoring machine is pretty much a mission impossible and can take seasons to find the next such player. 'Pool have not and will not in the near term replace Suarez and most importantly his goals and goal threat, which did two things - first it masked their crap defense, and secondly scared the other team and caused them to set themselves up to be defensive first and offensive second. This gave 'Pool a clear tactical advantage in any game.
I take no joy from it but there's a vast financial difference from being sacked working for example ,Aldis and getting sacked from a PL club .Not nice either way but a few thousand pound pay off would I imagine soften the blow .
Try a few million matt, He will be fine once he gets a striker in the January window. He was voted manager of the season by his peers last season so i cant see Liverpool dismissing him this season..
Wonder when the last time we entered Dec in the Premier without a manager being sacked , gotta be awhile.
Of course the payouts soften the blow, but just look at the behaviour of some on here when Laudrup got the sack. He was even being ridiculed for getting himself another job. Moyes received similar treatment at Utd. Some Arsenal fans' want Wenger kicked out. It's Rodgers' turn now,but not only Liverpool fans' are after his blood, some who frequent this Forum are just as eager to see him sacked. I can't think of any other sport where sackings are viewed with such glee. It's a football thing, and I find it quite odious.
Vetch - I've re-read this thread and can't see anyone on this thread displaying "joy and exultation".
Those were my words,Taff, interpreting the sentiments that are clear to see,on this Forum, and elsewhere. Whilst I've never been sacked,I know people who have, and it's not a pleasant experience, even taking into account large payoffs. There's something in the psyche of many football followers that they need to revel in the misfortunes of others.
