This has been a problem all season. From what I can see it is because we tend to have both full backs in a forward position. For me it should be only one of them giving us a back 3 when we are attacking, Johnson and whoever the other full back is need to be more aware of the others position and make sure we dont end up exposed in wide areas. So when attacking the defence should look like this. -- Skrtel - Agger - Enrique -- . . Lucas . Johnson If the play switches Enrique attacks and Johnson moves into a defensive position. I
It doesn't have to be a strict 442 but while we're talking about formations it's worth thinking about the formations played by the teams that have won the Prem in the last two decades. Any of them played 4-3-3? Nope. Any of them used two holding midfielders on a regular basis? Nope. There's a reason managers like Fergie don't use 433. But maybe they're wrong and BR's a genius.
Getting a bid bored with this 4-2-4-0 formation. Everyone wants to sit deep or outside the 18yard line. Our midfielders all like to drop back to the centre backs to pick up the ball and the wings like to run down the line then pass it backwards. Enrique and Johnson are the only players with bollocks to go past people and they're the FB's! We only need one holding midfielder - Lucas. Play Hendo and Gerrard behind Suarez and Enrique and Suso either side of Suarez. Goals in that team. They all like to run at people or can pick a pass forward. Drop Allen and Sterling, don't need them that much atm.
I totally agree SM. It's a total misnomer to suggest this formation has 3 forwards. Saturdays game was more like watching one of Rafas frustrating home formations but without any of the organisation, knowledge or the players who can play it.
