To be honest I thought we moved on from Dawson and spent the cash we set aside for him on Maguire and Robertson. AA must be sticking his hand in his pocket if we're still getting Dawson alongside a £10m signing.
Yeah you register a new set of players for the group stage. He was an unused sub and so won't be cup tied.
MD was due a testimonial next summer. He wanted a pay off to cover the loss of earnings he would have got if he refused to leave and saw out his contract. Until he sorts that with Spurs, he isn't signing for anyone. We agreed a deal otherwise ages ago as stated. He could still take another offer, unless he has shaken on it informally.
i believe the partnership of Dawson/Davis stops any dark day bitches from moaning about relegation for another 12 months at least
I'm not comfortable with all this testimonial stuff. If he wants to come here he should be focussing on coming here, not putting the deal to one side while he focusses on getting more money out of Tottenham. If that's his priority rather than getting the move sorted I don't like that at all. Kinda the opposite of his big brother, who made a loss on his own testimonial match.
Most players donate testimonial money to charity. Maybe he doesn't want his charity to miss out on a windfall. I'm sure he's not holding out to pocket it himself - that would be outrageous given the salaries of PL players.
I don't believe for a second, that the Dawson deal is being held up because he personally wants his testimonial money. It might well be that he's committed that money to a charity and doesn't want them to miss out, Premier League players don't keep that money nowadays.
If he has done that, wouldn't that be a stupid thing to do before you're certain you'll be there for 10 years?
Spurs may have said we've got an offer from Hull City do you want to go? He comes and sees us and agrees personal terms. He then tells Spurs that he's due a testimonial and will agree to go if they see his charity all right. If not he'll stay and give them the money from the activities Spurs arrange during his testimonial year.
Still doesn't sit right with me. This move should be his top priority. He's not short of money to give to charity, and it's not Tottenham's business to look after his charity. The way I see it he should either stay and have his testimonial or leave and focus on playing for his new club. If he wants to give money to charity he can do that but it isn't Tottenham's responsibility to give him money he isn't entitled to.
If he stays for 10 years it is Tottenham's business to look after his charity, as he has a contract that will give him a testimonial year. He's already done 9 years and is in his 10th. I wouldn't have much respect for somebody, who is, no doubt, a multi-millionaire by passing an opportunity to raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for charity without making an effort to see them all right. I think a man that shows that level of loyalty to his charity will also give us his loyalty as well.
