So they all agreed to join another competition and signed a legally binding contract to do so ASAP. If they had any intention of following the rules they’d have sought permission before signing, which they didn’t. Had there not been the public outcry against it, they’d have ploughed on irrespective, otherwise they’d have never committed to it.
So if their defence is that level of semantics, then it won’t stand up to much scrutiny at the judge lead review panel.

We’ve been through this mate, I’ve read L9 and there’s nothing whatsoever in there that they can use. If you think otherwise then throw the terms up and we’ll have a look, otherwise it’s interpretation.
They’ll revoke the owner’s vote and so they should, but the players and fans shouldn’t be paying the price, and they won’t.
