I disagree. I remember that at our famous 1-0 win home game on October 23rd 2011, that Luiz went over to the east paddock at the final whistle and giving an unabled bodied QPR fan his shirt. Despite a humiliating defeat to their greatest rivals and finishing with nine men in a cauldron of hate.
"On the evidence of this evening", Nines; elbows, wild kicks at opponents and general petulance. He was fortunate to stay on the pitch in my opinion.
I agree with an earlier comment: The myth that south American football is the best is the world needs to be buried. Of the 19 World Cups to 2010, 10 have been won by teams from Europe. Hardly domination, but is shows that SA are NOT the world beaters that they are hyped to be. Brazil have never defended well and have managed to score more goals than their opponents, not unlike Newcastle under Kevin Keegan, and what did they win? This is no 'end of an era for Brazil', there never was an 'era'.
I suspect that you're letting your own country loathing cloud your memory. The 1-5 England win in Germany was a world cup qualifier.
Sometimes I'm not clear why he doesn't emigrate permanently and seek nationality elsewhere, such is his anti-Britishness. Perhaps he just gets a bit carried away, but nevertheless became a parody of himself sometime ago.
Correct! First in 1958 and last in 2002. How does 5 wins over 44 years constitute and era though? If they had won it 3 times on the spin THAT would constitute an era for me.
? Only if you have the traditional English in built anti-German bias. Brazil were shockingly bad, but Germany played excellent football, I'd love to be watching sharp, fast passing and movement, and a commitment to get men forward, like that every week. Absolutely, the version we saw last night is probably the worst team they have ever put out in talent and attitude, but Brazil are by far the 'biggest' international team, have contributed more than any other to making football the most popular sport in the world by the way they have (usually) approached the game and the sublime players they have produced over decades. They haven't always lived up to the hype, but overall they represent the beautiful game better than any other team at any level (even my personal favourites, the Dutch of 1974, come second). Why do we still celebrate that John Barnes goal for England? Because it was against Brazil at the Maracana. No one has a divine right to win, and this is truly a crushing blow to Brazilian football. I hope it doesn't lead them to abandon their natural instincts, and in fact Scolari leading them down a 'European' route may have been part of their downfall, so it may do them some good.
Still, this was just a one match. I think everyone who thinks that germany would trash brazil like that everyday is a fool.... Nothing away from the germans in their day they are the most effective team in the world but their yesterdays opponent was just a pub team who played in brazils jerseys.
As we have seen, the Brasilians have played a far more cautious game and been very un-Brasilian throughout this tournament. Scolari is by nature a cautious manager and his team reflects this. The fact Fred and Jo are the two rivals for the No.9 shirt tell you all you need to know. They have never been able to defend properly and Thiago missing took out their only proper defender. With little upfront the early goal was a killer. They'll only be a power when they find a goalscorer and play a passing game, not the rubbish we've seen here. It could be a long wait...
No nonsense from the Germans. No fannying about. No showboating. No stepovers. No backheals. No Cruyff turns. Pass after pass after pass going where it was intended. Great movement off the ball creating space. A couple of superb finishes. All made easier by a Brazilian "team" that showed that they haven't got a clue when it comes to defending. It has always been my main moan with the Rs over the last few seasons that we don't pass the ball well. Too many balls hit "somewhere in the area of" the intended recipient. Too little movement so the passer has little to aim at.
Its rare that the beaten goalkeeper in a 7-1 thrashing was probably their best player, but I really can't think of a single outfield player that did anything even remotely average. the outfield 10 were a disgrace, and I ended up feeling quite sorry for Cesar, as none of the goals were really his fault, and his save from Muller in the second half was brilliant.
I'd never feel sorry for that prick. I doubt he felt sorry for us when he couldn't be arsed at Villa.
In The Times player ratings Cesar gets a 6, highest in the Brazil team, a fair few 2s as well. I still think he is a decent keeper, but Neuer throughout this tournament has been a class above, even including the excellent Mexican and Costa Rican keepers. Not just the shot stopping, but the marshaling of his defence and his quite brilliant quick distribution. Cesar just does not have the presence in that company.
Incredible game. The early goal silenced the crowd and the German's just destroyed a Brazil team with no heart for a fight. It's not the end of an era or anything as dramatic as that...Brazil were caught cold by the most efficient team in the world. If England had raced into a 3-0 lead against that team they'd have sat back and relaxed and probably let Brazil back into it. Germany knocked them down and then stood on their throat for good measure. The second half was just a precession - Germany played at about 50% and still scored more goals than Brazil. It was nice of Cesar to give Klose a second chance at the record...I'm sure Ronaldo was furious!
Last night was like watching Larry Holmes against Muhammad Ali - one side at the peak of it's powers against another a travesty of it's former self. Very uncomfortable viewing.
No anti German bias- too many loves in Germany for that to be possible. But their football? However good they were and they were extremely good, their game is machine like to me, cold, lacking character, flair, little human error, unecessary frills, just what you need to win. I always want the other team to win because they usually are the team playing with the fantasy and unecessary embroidery the German team leave for the playground, but for me the WC is the playground I prefer to watch the Latin American teams entertain in more than Germany win in.
so he did something nice 3 years ago. he could have been sent off 3 times in those 90 mins with flying elbows and feet.
