    My Latin teacher was a rum cove. I don't know if he was sadistic, but the underlying threat was definitely there. You could certainly picture him in a black uniform and jackboots.

    For that extra neo-nazi authenticity, we used to refer to his classroom as the 'gas chamber', because there was a very slow leak of gas from the radiators which sent everyone into a carbon monoxide induced state of stupor as we struggled with the declensions. I'm sure he arranged this deliberately.
