The guy never said "You can't write/say that", he said the posts were 'not on'. If you write something, whether intended as comedy or whatever, you have to deal with the consequences of that - including people calling you out on what you say. Yeah, you are free to say whatever you want, but other people are also free to judge you based on what you say, and call you out on it. Of course you can make 'jokes' about whatever you want. Plenty of television programmes and comedians do make jokes, that doesn't mean they are right (or wrong). Make jokes about whatever you want, but prepare to be judged based on what you say.
I didn't say he did, it wasn't aimed at anybody in particular. If people want to make assumptions about a person's character based on the jokes they tell, then fine, but it's not exactly fair is it? Do you think that Ricky Gervais acts like David Brent all the time? Or that Richard Ayoade is just Moss from IT crowd? When you hear a joke, unless you (in general, not referring to you personally) understand that the person telling the joke is detatched from the subject matter, then you're never going to find it funny. You're just going to think that that person is like that all the time. If I make a joke about a murderer, then I shouldn't then have to explain that I don't advocate that (or any) murders. It goes without saying and this is my point. When you tell a joke, make an anecdote or take the piss, you're detatching yourself from your normal character and almost becoming somebody else for that moment. I don't believe I should ever have to justify what I say in a comedy context because if I did, it'd just suck the comedy out of what was said. Comedy isn't about being right or wrong. It's about making people laugh. You can find something funny and not agree with it. If an elderly person fell at a wedding, you wouldn't stand there laughing, you'd help them up. But if you saw it on You've Been Framed, you'd probably have a giggle. It's about context. If people want to judge me on what I say then fine. In fact, I encourage the fact that they have a right to their opinion. Them not agreeing with it isn't going to make me stop saying it and it certainly isn't going to change my outlook on the subject matter. If they then find out then when I step off stage or finish telling the joke that I'm not that person all the time, then good for them.
OLM has a habbit of putting foot in mouth. You should hear what he shouts on home game day. Anyone who mentions Hindley, Brady and the moors is an utter disgrace.
It's called support, maybe some others in the West should try it. That's support for City obviously, not for the Moors murderers.
