Crap at what? Because he got 10 goals last season if you didn't notice and was the lifeblood of our midfield this season.
I didn't want Johnson to leave but mainly because he is a better version of Pugh imo. Not a fantastic player but very good to have in your squad, I just didnt like him in the holding role. I always said we should play him on the left but the formation didn't suit that.
At the end of the day, a Leeds team with a 'choice' of Johnson, Howson, Clayton, Gradel, Snodgrass, Sam and Pugh would be FAR BETTER than Brown, Pugh, Mikka, Sam, Snodgrass, Clayton taking permanent players and not loans into account.
No, he was crap in a holding role, which is why we were always on about how we needed a holding midfielder ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Did you go to any games 2nd half of last season. this is when he was moved into central midfield and was probably our best player after xmas.
its interesting how players become 'crap' the instance they leave... johnson has been a stand-out player in the premier league so maybe if you thought he was crap it says more about how he was utilised in your team than his actual ability. i know leeds fans who were raving about howson earlier this season when i suggested he was the type of player norwich needed. apparently he wouldn't come to norwich - if he leaves he would end up at a top 6 premier league team, so good was he... now he's crap too. i'll trust lambert's judgement thanks!
Bradley Johnson the stand out player in the prem is that lump in your cheek your tongue? Doubt anyone is saying howson is crap, like all clubs fans have different opinions about their players, Howson is a good player, a very good player on his day, if he was a very good player every game maybe a big club would have come in for him. lets see how he gets on with you in the Prem.
As Wakey said above when we put Bradley in the centre & he showed what he was all about. Just like a few seasons ago when we loaned him to Brighton & he was cracking them in left right & centre (I know hard to believe right?) Johnson clearly showed he could have been the answer to a problem position for us & we should of offered him a better contract than we did. Great in the air as well. Howson has always divided opinions of the fans. A few thought he got an easy ride for being local & a few thought he was the future of the club but either way he was a sure starter under Grayson. Play him in a conventional 442 and he does usually go missing, give him a bit more freedom in the midfield & watch him excel. Overall I think he was better than Johnson but Johnson has done the hard part & handled the step up, lets see if Howson can follow in his foot steps
Howson is class, Johnson isn't half the player he is. He was utilised as a CM, which I'm guessing is where he's playing for you, and was part of a central midfield that, along with Kilkenny, wasn't strong, quick or skilful enough. If he's improved, fine, but stop telling us we don't know about our own former player.
its interesting how players become 'crap' the instance they leave... ------------------------------------------------------ Completely agree Our fans are bad for it, Johnson was a very good player for us once played in correct position
Liw, our fans are very bad for it. I just think fans see a lot more faults with players when they leave than when they are here
i ****in hated Johnson. Lazy, half hearted little fat **** at times...i used to say it when he played with us...but i do agree he improved a bit when he knew he'd be leaving at the end of the season, kind of played himself in to a transfer to the PL. I remember once, think it was Stockport away, ****in freezin my twat off in a foot of snow, boxing day or summat? he ****in jumped away from a 50/50 with 1 of their defenders, was about 5yrds away from me....since that day iv ****in hated him. Workshy ****.
http://www.dailystar.co.uk/posts/view/215771/Bradley-Johnson-s-running-all-way-to-top/ ok, its from the daily star and is a few months old, but the lad works harder than anyone i've seen either play for us or against us this season. you don't have to have the silky skills to be a top player, and his energy and drive from midfield is as good as anyones. lazy he is not - he's the complete opposite in fact! his passing is good, his tackling excellent and because we play him a bit deeper, his shooting (if you can call it that) isn't an issue. another case of a good manager making a player excel. i fully expect howson to react the same way to lambert
hes played for you for 23 games or something. i watched him for 3 years at Leeds. He WAS a lazy ****. He WAS a workshy ****. He WAS an inconsistant ****. if hes improved since then, fine...he is trying to impress in the big league & win over his new supporters. but that doesnt take away from the fact that he was average at best when he played for us. and mis-hit a cross against Arsenal ;-)
wow, you really do have a way with words. charming. maybe he didn't play his best for leeds, but he certainly has been a top, top free transfer signing for us. i'm not saying it to wind you lot up, i'm saying it cos its true. its not impossible that you never saw the best of him yet lambert is capable of getting the best out of him, every week in a higher league, so must have been something different going on at leeds!
What's probably helped Johnson the most is the Premier League is slower than League 1 / Championship, it's not as blood and thunder like the lower leagues. Therefore he doesn't get caught dilly dallying as often as he used to when he was at Leeds United. He's probably still got the turning circle of a crusie liner!
