Was that the season we went down from the Championship and lost 3-1 at Forest? I was there that day - can't recall any issues. What happened?
The police got their knickers in a twist about fans mixing. All a bit bizarre, but together with about 10 others I was unceremoniously turfed out of a pub where we were chatting to Forest fans and "escorted" to Notts County's club where we were told that we had to stay until the police would escort us to the ground. I think they thought we were going to attack Forest fans with our senior railcards, or bribe officials with our B&Q discount cards - not one of us was the "right" side of 60!
Oh what a shame. I was sat on the banks of the river with forest fans, having a picnic. #onenilandwe'regoingdown
I must admit every now and again when I'm at St Mary's I look around and realise if it wasn't for those tragedies I would not be so comfortable at football now. I've been going to football since 1978 and trust me as a half Italian, half Indian person that wasn't pleasant then! Thankfully, things have changed - they are not perfect, but I don't fear for my safety and I didn't ever have any worries taking my now grown up daughter to football when she was younger. What my Dad was doing taking me into those hostile environments is another thing!
