Just noticed that the club is still using the old crest/badge on the website, why aren't they using the new one? Did I miss a statement about that when it was brought in last season?
Sure that would be nice, if we played 100 games per season. But we play about half of that, meaning that in 90% of situations we won't have the need to play so many different styles. Most players are not happy splitting time. Even Higuain decided to leave his lifelong club because he had to split playing time with Benzema. Quite simply, if we sign anymore attacking players some will have to leave. Or some will be unhappy. In the end, two of these will be disappointed to not take part at all every match day. Yes each player is good for different roles but we only ever play one style of football, with minor variations. Most teams do. Top teams don't tend have a full replacement set for their first team and then some extras and then some more youth and so on. Allen and Shelvey don't fit our style and as such will have to miss out sometimes (though I suspect Hendo will unfairly get the short end of the stick). This won't make anyone happy. I'd love to have 50 squad players if we could but no player on earth would stand for it.
I'm not sure on this. Could be that the old crest is still the main registered one. It may be the more globally recognized one.
The way I see it is you build a team of 22 players, with two players in each position. Plus a few extra versatile players, possible of a slightly different style, for added depth and a bit of flexibility. So for me its 2 of our 433 11's, plus another flexible forward, another versatile midfielder and a 3rd goal keeper. An extra versatile defender can complete it for extra luxury depth, but that could be the player is left unsatisfied with game time.
I respectfully disagree though I see your point. You can't have 22 players. This means 11 will be angry/disappointed during a matchday, who will then have to be given the scraps to appease them, leaving no room for development of youngsters. I think that would be great for the club, if the players were happy to sit on the bench. They usually aren't. If you want to make a team of 22, then make 11 first-squad and fill the rest with young, up and coming talents who will learn and be immersed into the first team eventually. You can't have 22 senior players who want to play week in-week out. This means no first team player can make a single mistake as they won't be given a second chance. Too much pressure to succeed for the first team, to little motivation to succeed for the second string. You can have around 18-20 top players + subs, and the rest are prospective and willing to wait for chances.
