Very well said Robbie and I remember Billy Davies saying when being interviewed after we beat Forest (I think it was) how he admired that everyone at the club was 'pulling in the same direction!!' and aiming for promotion. I would say that I'm 'pro Hughton', but our display on Sat was dire to say the least and hope we perform much, much better on our next trip to London!!! At least let the team TRY to score goals and not just prevent the other team from scoring.
JRFan, but why do you keep peddling the myth that CH somehow doesn't "let the team try to score goials and not just prevent the other team from scoring"? Virtually every post you make includes some such remark. Let me ask you. Would CH have selected the team he did if he wanted them to do no more on Saturday than defend, defend, defend and try to stop Spurs scoring? Would CH say explicitly afterwards that they had gone to WHL with the hope that they could get something from the game because they thought Spurs might be hampered by having so many new players and in the light of our results there in the previous two seasons? If you or anybody else can make a plausible case for answering those two questions with "Yes" I clearly don't understand anything and will find something better to do with my time than waste everyone else's as well as my own on here.
I'm with you on this Robbie, I don't see how exactly the same eleven players could have been "not defensive enough" against Saints then "too defensive" against Spurs
Robbie and Dave. I was pleased when I heard that the same 11 were starting against Spurs as had started against Saints, but it may well have been that Spurs were so good at attacking and keeping the ball that we were forced to defend so deep and not break forward. A couple of times, Redmond got into promising positions and overhit his pass out to the wing so that the ball went out of play and the attack broke down. For me, the major disappointment was that on our last 2 visits to WHL, we played brilliantly and was hoping we'd give Spurs more of a game. We only really threatened the Spurs defence a couple of times and maybe it was a case of several NCFC players having an 'off day' at the same time, but CH left it so late to make his substitutions that we were aways chasing the game. I would have liked to have seen Snodgrass taken off and Pilks come on in his place say around the hour mark, but then 'what do I know???'
it does seem that there is a belief in the miraculous sub. How would the suggested substitution made any difference? There are often reasons for keeping players on, even when they are having off days.
Betfair have started to do their own 'team of the week'. Unsurprisingly, this week's has 2 Spurs players - but also our very own defensive rock, Seb Bassong. Nice to see his excellent work recognised, even in a very lacklustre team performance. http://betting.betfair.com/football/premier-league/premier-league-team-of-the-week-150913-6.html?
