Looks as though the great Muhammad Ali might be in a bit of trouble. He's been admitted to hospital in Phoenix with what's being reported as respiratory issues. A spokesman stated that Ali was in a fair condition and a brief stay was expected. Given his past history, where family members have tended to play down his health problems, nothing can be taken for granted. All the best champ.
If the link below is right, then Ali may be near the end. http://www.news.com.au/sport/boxing...e/news-story/1a7dac578cfd19801f12a35aacc4376e
I'm not in any way a religious being, but this somehow strikes a chord in me today. Blind Willie Johnson.
Probably the most iconic sportsman ever. He was sometimes found lacking as a man and at times very unpleasant but there is no doubt he was one of THE greatest ever boxers the world has ever seen. He pretty much had it all, speed, power, movement, defence. The word legend is thrown about far too often these days but this year they are dropping like flies. RIP champ
The most graceful heavyweight ever. And not far off being the toughest, either. A sixties icon inside the ring and out.
Stood up for his principles, inside and outside the ring. A truly humbling human being by all accounts who bravely fought his last battle against an awful disease for so long. RIP The Greatest
Lightening Lee Mcgregor defeats another high class opponent at Tynecastle Edinburgh last night ...unanimous...also awarded boxer of the night and year. Pretty partisan crowd too....
We all have to go eventually in our lives but what we do before we go is what makes people remember you. Ali will be remembered for ever and a day in what he did both in the fighting ring and the fight he had out of it... RIP
Will never forget the first time I saw Cassius Clay. In those days the BBC had a Thursday night sports programme. When Clay first came to England he appeared on there (prior to his Cooper fight) and was interviewed by David Coleman. It got round to Clay's 'I am the Greatest' banter. When Coleman questioned this and the ridiculousness of it, Clay just stood up and walked out. If this bloke didn't know he was the greatest he wasn't going to waste his time talking to him.It was live TV in those days, it was hilarious.. He immediately became my hero. Apparently a couple of days later he was the guest at a lunch with all the boxing hacks. One suddenly said 'you think you're tough, well this is tough' and promptly stuck a fork in his leg and walked off. Clay went pale, whereupon Reg Gutteridge leaned over and said ' don't worry son he's got a wooden leg'..
How good is Beefy? Yesterday the WBO Champion Liam Smith gave the journeyman Predrag Radosevic a belting, finishing the challenger in just two rounds. Radosevic was only rated 11 by the WBO and was given little hope going into the fight. Before the fight Beefy was ranked the ninth best Super Welterweight in the world, behind the likes of Erislandy Lary and the Charlo boys, and is not really considered to be in their class. What do you guys think, is he under rated? I noticed that after the fight, his team mentioned the IBF Welterweight Champion Kell Brook. If Brook stepped up a division, would Beefy be badly battered?
