I don't know if it was a complete flop the way some of the others were. I went to see it when it came out and remember the cinema being mobbed. The film was oscar nominated and then released a few months later and more folk went to see it. It still is a film that has grown in stature via the video market as you said Dev. It is possibly more of a cult film than a flop. Though there is a huge element of crossover between cult and flop.

Glasgow's funny like that with cinema. I saw Blade Runner twice when it first came out and I remember seeing Ridley Scott interviewed and he actually mentioned the city by name saying that this was one of the main places that popularised the film. It was shown here for a long time over a number of years. This is not the case with Shawshank, but I remember when it came out it being well watched here.

When I first saw Blade Runner I was completely underwhelmed, mind you it was the original Voiceover version. Just goes to show even I can be wrong from time to time.

Interesting you mention Dune. I loved that film and was only thinking the other day I'd like to watch it again.

There's a 3 hour long version which David Lynch wanted nothing to do with, (The Alan Smithee versio it's worth a watch though.
