That goal made me realise why there are no longer terraces. I was there standing next to my brother and mate as Lee Barnard struck the ball. When it hit the net I was 10 feet from one and 15 from the other in all directions. Bedlam. IIRC an older lady right next to me needed medical attention as she got knocked over. Still one of my favourite goal celebrations though
It would be the most typically Saints thing to somehow win the FA Cup whilst in the middle of what is probably the worst run of league form in the clubs history. Not that I have any expectations, it is also well within our skill set to get trounced by out of form Championship Bournemouth.
A good source at the club has told me Stephens can't be sold this season. He is starring as Idle Jack in this year’s Dick Whittington pantomime at the Mayflower. He will run on and off the stage frequently throughout the 90-minute show saying the same line, "Ooh, he's in behind me."
AFC Bournemouth (First Team) v Southampton FC (First Team) FA Cup Referee: Atkinson, Martin Assistant Referee: Burt, Stuart Assistant Referee: Hatzidakis, Constantine Fourth Official: Hooper, Simon Video Assistant Referee: Coote, David Additional Video Assistant Referee: Hopton, Nick
To stretch the pantomime metaphor, probably to breaking point: Stephens can't be sold - Oh yes he can! Where's his career? It's behind him!
If you score a late winner you don't really want to be at the front of a terrace I was back in the safer general jostling zone, I probably grabbed Mrs S to ensure we stood or fell as one and because, well, why wouldn't I?
