basically all i know is that beards, check shirts, brown shoes, are a must....

I think basically the name was stolen to call the arseholes it cos styling facial hair was common to both

In short... its an era of privilege and these clowns wouldn't know what to do if a real crisis struck them... a good war to thin the ranks was a common expression in my youth.

Do you not remember it well because you were drunk all throughout it?

Pre-foetal drinking was very popular in those days.

Who doesn't wear socks FFS? <doh>

I like to wear socks because it keeps my ankles warm. Especially when wearing shorts in this weather, I need all the warmth I get. <ok>

If you watch every player in every game in every league that's great but for those who don't there's stats. I know they can be used to present something in whichever way the presenter wants to present it but they can also be, in my opinion, a very useful tool when you have no knowledge of whatever it is you're looking into - in this case a keeper who hasn't filled us with confidence so far but who was rated 2nd best in the BL last season. I doubt his fellow professionals got out the stats of every single game played in the league before making their choice but the fact that the stats actually backed up the rankings surely isn't a coincidence either.

People wearing proper shoes with no socks and ankle swingers look ridiculous. I think Pharrell Williams started it a few years back.

When i I was at school you got ripped into if you wore ankle swingers!

You see that's just wrong. The stats for shots saved [the ones I've been talking about anyway] are worked out based on some method or other of difficulty and penalty saves etc. I don't hang my hat on stats but I don't just outright dismiss them either. Being open-minded is the way to go I find <ok>

deffo should be free reign to slap them about.

I don't go by stats <whsitle> I open my eyes and look.

I can usually judge a guy fairly well within 10mins. I'm very rarely wrong too.

I think 90% of scouts can judge a game in 10/15mins and see where theres any talent. Half the job seems to be off the pitch and pre game and trying to spot the lazy bum type players.

I get the looking with your own eyes bit to see whether or not you rate somebody but what if the lad being watched has a great game while the scout's there, or the reverse, and that performance sways the decision. You need all the information you can get and stats is there as one tool to help with that.

We're bombarded with stats these days as there's a stat for every possible angle you can think of, in fact as soon as they churned out at the weekend that Bournemouth hadn't beat Liverpool since 1927 I thought - oh here we go - and I was right <laugh> Same with minutes played since last goal, yards covered etc. etc. etc. I have no interest in that whatsoever.

Fans these days not only have the game to watch but all the science involved as well. This is the most clued-up generation of footie fans ever. The simple enjoyment is being taken away as everyone is encouraged to analyse, criticise and prophesy!

true. thats why watching before hand to see if he just turned it on cos you are watching as a scout stuff is important.

i do think maybe 5% get clued up and the other 95% of fans think they get it but end up understanding the game even less.

the stats don't tell you where a guy goes and fills in or the 20 runs he made without getting a pass etc.
