Thought Cardiff would be up for this......Playing as if your frightened of them and lucky the penalty never went in or it would be game over i'm afraid.....Come on Warnock sort the team out ffs......This is one of the very few games where there is a chance of picking up a point or 3...

City got it all wrong today; tactics, formation & team selection.

Had their moments 2nd half but overall very disappointing.

Have to agree - thought we'd lose from the moment the team was announced.

That team didn't look balanced to me at the outset. Sounded as though Reid worked his socks off but Murphy should have started with him.

Midfield was weak even without Ralls picking up a knock - no control and without that we'll always struggle. Arter and Camarasa look essential for Newcastle.

Your backline looked very nervous to me, they need to get some composure pretty quickly, otherwise your in for a long hard season, still early doors though..........<ok>

Thought we were ok. Could have nicked a draw. Better side won. They weren't much better.

Manga at fault with both goals. Always an accident waiting to happen. Does some good stuff but too many bloopers.

Bamba not a midfielder unless he has a target to mark.

Reid a lightweight as main striker. Needs to play off Zohore - who was injured in training.

    Murphy looks a real prospect.

Morrison played well defensively and found some good pace againsy Wilson.

Hoilett poor. Why did they switch NML to left when he had the beating of Daniels?

Arter, Camarasa and Zohore to come in next week.

A lot of unforced errors due to miss-communication.
As suggested by BFB, Reid needs to bulk up a little although I suspect he was the lone striker because Zohore was injured.
Murphy has the pace and the skills, but he also seemed a little lightweight.
Hoillet had a poor game, but he was as busy as ever and didn't give up.
NML didn't have too much of a say in the proceedings, I can only remember his failed attempt in the 2nd half.
Need to do something about Bamba and Peltier, as they didn't seem to gel too well and too many errors.

Bournemouth were marginally better than us and deserved their win. I actually thought it was a championship type game and reminded me of the away game at Wolves last season, only worse.

Nah. They were quite a bit better. If they had of taken the couple of easy chances they created, 4-0 would have been the result. We created one half decent chance for the whole 90 minutes. Our attacking movement and midfield were pants which put more pressure on our defence. Manga may not have done well, but Bamba allowed the first goal. The guy walked past him into a scoring position.

Overall this is what I was worried about. Counter attacking football takes skill up front. We don't have it. Mendez-Laing...argggghhhh. The guy needs to get some ball control. He just runs into people or delivers wasteful crosses. He looks dangerous, but he rarely is. We are asking way too much of our wingers to defend so deep and then turn around and attack.

Either NW works out something else or this is going to be a long season of losing 0-2 or 1-2 and then getting thumped by the top 6 or 7 teams. We gave it our best, we showed heart, but that won't get us 10 wins and the 7 or 8 draws we need.

Still, it is only week one and things may improve at home, but NW's whole approach to this game was very disappointing.

Haven't seen the game, only listened to it but I didn't get the impression that was a decent performance. No midfield control and lightweight up front combined with idecision at the back meant we were on a loser.

Need to sort out that midfield first.

Looking at it again, the two major differences were their pace and running direct with the ball from midfield and their two wing backs pace and ability.Peltier <doh>

Manga is an accident in transit<doh> Bamba in midfield<doh>

And at least MOD pundits agreed it was not a penalty.

ps Wolves like several times last season benefitted from playing versus 10 men.

    pps Fulham<laugh>

Arter will bring pace and direct running from midfield. Has a good shot too.

Hopefully Camarasa will give some control and passing ability. Don't know what the physical side of his game is like.

My midfield would be Ralls, Victor & Arter with Murphy out wide. Need to be able to retain possession.

    Reid & Zahore up front.

Hoilett & Paterson looked out of their depth yesterday.

At the back drop Manga and put Bamba back to his proper position. Play Richards instead of Peltier.

Pity we have 2 decent left backs and only one half decent right back.

Though he never looks particularly fast, Paterson looked slow yesterday and Hoilett was off the pace as well. Mendez does nothing for me.

Got to pack the midfield with energy and some pace (and skill) out wide with Murphy is a must.

If Zohore is fit he must start along with Reid to play each other in.

At the back we need to assess that right side. Peltier offers nothing other than strength and commitment - afraid that is just not enough at this level.

    Hi guys
    How did ‘Agent Reid’ do?
Hope he didn’t blow his cover by hitting an own-goal like Flint almost did - he had to go and score for Borough in the ‘correct’ goal in order to deflect suspicion....... ;)
