It's difficult to raise the enthusiasm to watch any football in Bristol at the moment. Except that something inside us keeps persuading us that it will soon get better!! So we keep on doing it!!

Unless we are both bottom of our respective divisions then it can't get much worse, but it's pretty bad right now !

I agree. There was no need to call that game off. Burns wouldn't have played anyway, and Williams and Elliott were easily replaced.

Now we will have a mid week game, in the middle of October/November, which I for one, cant get to (90 miles away and work commitments) with it being nothing more than a game in hand.

Seems that SOD didn't want to risk injuries with the Wycombe game being in the same week. Well, after that performance and result, it was hardly justified

These are the words Paul Scally used as the reasons for sacking Martin Allen..

Gillingham chairman Paul Scally says he had no choice but to sack manager Martin Allen.

Allen, who led the Gills to the League Two title last season, was dismissed on Sunday with the club 17th in League One - one point above the relegation zone.

Scally told BBC Radio Kent: "It's easy to be patient and keep holding off. "The directors and I felt if we didn't make a change fairly quickly we'd be at Christmas and the position may not have been one we could rectify."

He added: "I am sure many fans are disappointed and I am sorry I had to make this decision but I do believe it is in the best interests of the football club."

"The statistics do speak for themselves," said Scally. "We have only got two wins this season and nine points out of 11 games"."There is no doubt the team need something different to help them get that run of wins."

    Sounds kind of familiar...

We are not talking schoolgirl hockey here Lan.
How do you think players coped with managers like Fergusson, throwing boots and cups and hairdryers around like confetti ? I saw an interview of that cracking Forest side on Clough back in the 70s, and the players talked about him through clenched teeth, yet both these manager had players queing round the block to sign for them.
OK, Johnson was probably no Shankly but his approach was similar as far as discipline, and I would not hold his relationship issues with players against him.

Johnson achieved what no other manager since Dicks had, to take us to the verge of the top division. Thats much much further than all the Bristol City managers that have pontificated at AG, who have promised but not delivered.

Quite agree with this. Unfortunately we are living in a different world from that of the 1970's where most managers were also seen as father figures to players and ruled (rightly IMO) by fear. Look at what Cloughie put together at Forest.
Kenny Burns - was spending all his time and money at the dog track after Birmingham City
John Robertson - overweight, smoking heavily, drinking and living on bacon sandwiches
Larry Lloyd was an over the hill ex SAG
Archie Gemmill and John McGovern had seen better days with Derby
Peter Withe and Gary Birtles were plucked from non league obscurity as raw talent on a punt

He bought quality in Shilton, Anderson and Francis and won the First Division league title straight after promotion from the old second division, a league cup and 2 European Cups with the most unlikely squads ever, and they really entertained too.

With players at the top today earning sums of money (and presumably not liking being told they've underperformed), most of us can only imagine there is probably a lot less respect for managers these days, and their positions, aside from the likes of SAF and Mourinho have been totally undermined by silly wages and equally inflated egos of the players who can just move on to their next victim of a club.

Not an easy situation to manage

What and we haven't got any of that now?? Oh it's ok as we've made a vast improvement sitting second from bottom in League one!!!
I think I would swap what your saying and being 14th in the Championship........
