He'd clearly recorded it earlier as a contingency if we'd signed no one ... which was always likely! He was probably negotiating with someone else who had a similar sounding name who was wondering why there was a limey berk in his livingroom talking gibberish to him at some ungodly hour!
The signs were there for all to see. Damage limitation came after missing out on Salah. BR's comments and body language said it all. I have to say that I'm really not convinced by our 'transfer committee'. Aspas, Alberto, Ilori should all be bedded in and giving the squad some depth. They are not. So not adding additional players this January seems like a big deal. Nor am I convinced that this plankton fella was the right player, although he was good by all accounts. If anyone of Gerrard or Hendo gets injured in the next 2 months, who can stand in? Allen is lightweight and a different type of player and always injured anyway. I fear that we are totally exposed in the middle of the park. I don't know if it's Ayres or just the whole process but we seem to be very rigid in our dealings. Maybe it's FFP coming home to roost. Who knows. So while I'm pretty pissed off that we signed nobody, I'm a little more pissed off that we were looking to strengthen in that position in the first place. If we'd signed him and Hendo gets injured this weekend we'd still be buggered!. Ah well, it's done. The analysis of this window can only be done effectively at the end of the season. If we miss out on top 4 because we didn't sign anyone, heads should roll. It will set us back years because we will lose Suarez. Until then, or a time when we know we're out of the picture, I'll bite my tongue and support the team. If BR gets us to fourth with this squad, he'll deserve all the plaudits he in the world. Come on redmen!!! YNWA
