  1. How did Carroll earn it? A good season in the Championship is hardly a proven striker to me. He had scored 3 goals in the premier league before given the shirt.

Even though i think hard work and dedication to the club matters, the quality of the player does also. A player needs to prove he's quality enough to wear the shirt, and be the face of Newcastle United.

Carroll wasn't a proven premier league quality striker before he got the shirt, and the next one needs to be. He needs to show consistency, heart and hard work.

    That's my opinion.

One thing to take out of this, is that it implies we arent after N'Zog anymore. Both Pardew and Stone have said they are after 2 more players ideally. 1 of them is clearly Taylor, or if we dont get him we'll still want a cover LB. Then the second player is going to be a striker, going off the earlier quote. Might stick a fiver on Zog to Villa.

A world class striker is a different beast and quite simply would and most probably SHOULD be selfish enough to WANT the number 9 shirt. I know I would because I know how much it means.

Now any striker being given 'THAT' number should feel a responsibility to play like a number 9 week in and week out. Thus it can be a motivational tool as a manager...

"come on son, your wearing the number 9 shirt..... show the crowd what it means.."

"Yes boss... I focking will" (scores hat trick in second half)

Expecting 15-25 goals from Demba Ba. Sounds like Pardew plans for him to be first choice striker?

Dont think we will see much of that £35m....

I think he'll be the solo striker in a 4-5-1. Think we want a small striker to compliment him though, who can cover if his knee plays up and offer something different. But he would be second choice, hence not wanting to be suckered into paying too much for Erdinc.

Surely Shola's the senior striker now and should get the No. 9 shirt?

Wor Jackie, SuperMac, Big Al and, erm, Ameobi. The lineage is obvious...

    Wiki is wrong.

    Famous 23 - Sports

They seem to feel that the number 23 shirt was made famous by someone named Michael Jordan when we all know they wore it in deference to Shola Ameobi.

Exactly, considering Ba's injury history I'd be very disappointed if we dont bring in at least 1 more striker - two if Best & Ranger leave.

If Ba started 25 games I think he'll get into double figures for goals. With cup competitions we should have 45/50 games next season so we need somebody to fill the potential void if Ba gets injured. Best can certainly do a job, Shola and Lover probably won't get more than a handful of games each.

The fact we are in for Erdinc means we are after at least one more striker so I think the worries that Ba will be our only new stiker are very unlikely to be true. Like you I think we will defo need a second one if Best leaves.
