All depends on what happens in the summer and how we start next season. If by some miracle we hold onto Sanchez and Ozil and we win our first 3 or 4 games next season, the atmosphere will completely change again.
Lazarus, I am probably the last person on this forum who you need to convince that Wenger's time is up! I've been saying for several years now that he needs to leave. My biggest fear was that if he didn't do it earlier and things didn't improve quickly, the fans would turn against him. Now the chickens are coming home to roost. Didn't expect the media scrutiny to be as scathing as it has been, given how many pro-Wenger journalists and commentators there's been, but this is what happens when you just coast along without making substantial improvements.
Agreed fans can be fickle and things can change. But you and I both know that Wenger is a mistake waiting to happen, he always is nowadays. Also our team will collapse, maybe not at the beginning, but somewhere down the line they will and you see how the fans will jump on him. To be honest, I can quite easily see the fans jump on him for any little thing he does, it's got that bad. But i don't have access to the dressing room, it could be worse than you and I think it is.
Yep, tend to agree. If we screw up at any point next season, which let's face it is bound to happen at some stage, then it will become toxic once again. I'm with you on this fella, Wenger needs to go. We just disagree about the timing, I want him to go once we've secured his long term successor as I think putting somebody else in on a temporary basis is a bigger risk than waiting. (Unless it was somebody like Hiddink)
It sure is a mess and it's hard to have faith in the Arsenal management to make the right decisions. Let's hope it doesn't get really bad.
This is new territory for all of them. They are so used to Wenger delivering what they need (Minimum top 4) so they have allowed him to get on with it. This will be a massive challenge for the board, because Wenger's time is done. In order to replace him properly, then are going to have to negotiate with the best in Europe and pay up to secure their man.
Yep, you are not training a new manager you are looking for a ready made one. There are only so many top managers who would fit your club and style so the trick is to pick one and make him an offer that is difficult to turn down. EDIT......having another year will not change that.
It's possible I suppose, but clearly the board have done **** all so far in securing a replacement. So I can't see them pulling off a master stroke in the next 4 months
Think about it, would you expect your board to go to a manager and say "we want you at the end of the season, name your price and we will talk" or "we are thinking of changing our manager at the end of next season, would you be interested" The last one wouldn't work for either side, the players at your club would get a free season and the new manager would be stuck for a year at a club where everyone knows he is leaving.
The problem Arsenal have is similar to the one United had. Firstly, taking over from a long term manager is difficult. A manager will not get much time to get things right (Moyes). If you get a manager who plays winning but boring football the fans will quickly turn on him. Look at LVG top 4 and then the FA Cup then sacked!. Secondly, getting a manager who knows the premier league is going to be difficult as most are employed. Thirdly, getting an overseas manager does not guarantee success. If Guardiola is struggling at city then someone could well struggle at Arsenal. This is why the board at arsenal are like rabbits caught in the headlights imho.
The first one is an ideal scenario. But unless the club have been doing negotiations behind the scenes, then I can't see them scouting, negotiating, compensating another club and appointing a new manager all within a 4 month window. It would be better for Wenger to sign a 2 year deal, then go after 1, giving the club a year to secure a successor.
Disagree slightly somewhat. First Moyes was never a big name manager and he was only accepted as Ferguson handpicked him. Secondly to go on from a much loved Fergie and winning the League to Moyes and more defensive football and crossing to Felleini is a big difference from Arsene who has divided the club and Arsenal who are about to finish outside the top 4. I think whoever comes in will be given time unless they do a hodgson as Liverpool
It may depend on who it is. If the board were to make an unpopular choice, then I think there'd be limited patience from the start. An appointment like Wenger was wouldn't go down very well, somewhat ironically.
Don't know the math between Goons & Spuds. St. Arsehole today likely? Fcuk the Goons. Thanks to their Fcuk up, Spuds are not looking over the shoulders & playing with utter freedom Hesus Wept!!
So one of the least eagerly anticipated games I can remember tonight. Away at struggling Boro, who look doomed. Anything other than a win will heap more pressure on Wenger and the players. And 3 points just about keeps us in touch with 5th and a Europa league spot .....
If its an old dinosaur like hodgson, moyes etc of course it would be limited. If it was an up and coming manager i think he would get time. They only need to better wenger. Also lets face it it would be a failure and a massive gamble not to pick someone with an ounce of a track record. Ive bandied a few around: Monaco manager, emery, silva, allegri, even someone like tuchel
I think even our board would understand that appointing somebody like Moyes or Hodgson would be a complete disaster.
