We’ve got 2 weeks break now so time for Kieron to do what he’s really good at and get them on the training pitch after some much needed rest! The Southampton game was a double edged sword for us! Players look leggy so a point gained today.
The Norwich game did to us what it did in December, sucked our belief that the ball would hit the net. Two weeks now to regroup and go again.
It,s absolutely b*ll*x that saints play 4 x before we kick another ball. I think we have blown it today. Cannot see us getting a point at Hull, unless they don,t win their 2 games before we go there. Brilliant season though.
Win the next 3 and we go up it’s as simple as that! Hull aren’t all that and neither are Coventry! Huddersfield will be relegated by the time we play them so relax
I don’t think we’ve blown it - but I want to see us throw everything at Hull and not try to pace ourselves for the other two games.
Hull play some excellent football, one of the best passing teams we have played. Don’t under estimate them
Now I’m just looking forward to a fortnight at home with my feet up watching the promotion rivals’ games unfold. I’ve clocked 2400 miles since Good Friday!
Decent game but last 2 draws have felt like defeats because of how Leeds and Leicester have done. My 1 criticism of yesterday was the 1st substitution. Not so much Moore for Al-halmadi but Broadhead for Sarmiento. Chaplin was clearly the worst of the front 3 yesterday and thought he should have come off. Just hoping that by the time we play Hull, the others keep on losing / drawing
That substitution was a bit strange, wasn’t it? Chaplin was off his game and not enjoying himself, Sarmiento was a threat. The only logic I can apply to that is that McKenna likes to plan scenarios in advance and work with his data, maybe it was predetermined that Sarmiento would play an hour.
I think you're probably right Yorkie.I was speaking to someone with a bit of inside knowledge.According to them KMc likes to break each match up into 15-20 minute segments with set passages of play planned and subs etc are brought in to carry out those plans.
I think BigAl and Hampy you are both right on this tactical subs issue. For all his brilliance, team, coaching and his array of screens and data, several occasions he has needed to be more flexible. Our play took a dramatic downplay. For all our dominance in the 1st half we were lucky not lose it in the last 20!
Well I’d say hang on there a second… how many times would the thought out plan have been right and the gut decision have been wrong? I didn’t think we were hanging on toward the end of the game - it could have gone either way. If anyone puts the ball in the net for Town then we are lauding the manager’s choices. The tactics have been correct more times than we could have ever hoped for.
Our tactics are unbelievably brave and clever. Early on in the season I couldn’t believe my eyes that our full back seemingly left his winger free. Now we know why that is - it’s a calculated risk. More often than not the ball doesn’t reach the winger, but if it does then our full back can go to the danger. It in fact leaves our full back unchallenged in space - and that puts all the odds in our favour when a break is on. Time and again, Clarke, Tuanzebe and Burgess and Davis will pick up the ball and unchallenged can run into space play it central or pick out a player further forward. It also means that full back is more central to help out with other immediate danger in the width of the penalty box. Once in a while, the opposition will score but they would score once in a while even if we were marking that winger tight.
I'm fully bought in to KMc's system. The whole squad seems to be well drilled in what's expected of them and it's clear whoever joins also had to be prepared to too. This is the way forward and our success this Season demonstrates it.If Kieran isn't Manager of the Season I'll be very surprised.
