Sunday at 12pm (what genius thought that was a good idea) for the visit of Boro. After the excitement of the derby win followed by the really poor showing at Pompey, it’s back to Portman Road. I hate the term “must win game” but this really feels like 1. Southampton play Saturday - come on Swansea but if we can beat Boro, that pretty much puts them out of the top 2 race. Think we will revert to strongest line up so
Walton
Davis
Greaves
O’Shea
Furlong
Matusiwa
Taylor
Burns (or Johnson if Burns not fit)
Mehmeti
Jaden
Azon

Draws against Boro and Southampton, win the other three and we're uncatchable - big ask but I think we can do it?!

So a 2-2 draw isn't the end of the world!

COYB!!!

Well, my Portsmouth prediction was way off the mark (like most of us I guess) so I’ll go for my standard 2-1 to us. We really can’t afford any slip ups.

Five games left, so let’s check in on the Predictions League - and we’ve got a fair bit of movement!

Gaffer still holds a ten point lead out in front. Barring an Arsenal-esque wobble, he’s surely done enough to wrap things up. Doing so will keep up the emerging tradition of a different winner every season.

Things are a bit tighter in second with Stretchy sitting on a two point cushion. Unfortunately for him, there is no £180 million odd prize for the runner up in this league - but it could be a consecutive runners up place for Stretchy!

Mike is pipping me for third on account of the better prediction percentage. This caps off an impressive surge up the table over the last few months! I drop to fourth and SD keeps steady at fifth.

Evesham is stuck in a bit of a no man’s land place, with a decent buffer over Big Al below. Alex’s late entry hasn’t stopped him putting points on the board with a strong prediction percentage rate. Maybe a contender for gold next season? He leapfrogs Spanish, who I hope will still be playing despite our recent loss.

Fat Boy Slim gets some separation from the bottom group with a couple of correct guesses. The big story at the bottom is Yorkie back to submitting predictions and getting some points. He now looks in a good place to avoid the wooden spoon with a jump up two places.

As for this week - I’m confident we’ll beat Middlesbrough at home. A 2-1 win to set us up for a mid-week away trip to a side battling for survival. What could go wrong?

Thanks again Nuggets, tho I maybe losing my touch. I have a cunning plan for our last game Sat 2nd May. I might drive up and if we do win that, and go up, some of us can meet after the game for a pint! It would be good to meet some forum friends in person.

Town 1-2 Boro and I think we will lose to Southampton. Sorry but I think we have been pants lately, even against the scum, who I thought were better than us on the day. For me it's the playoffs and Soton go up in 2nd!!

Burns out so think Johnson might play on the right. Don’t wish ill on anyone but hopefully Hackney not fit to return against us

Third in the trilogy of potentially season -defining games that have been looming over us since the second attempt to get to fratton park.

Boro outplayed us at the Riverside but I think our seasons have been going in different directions and we'll have enough to come away with victory

1-0

Half an hour in, and there’s plenty of zip in this game. We look a lot more fluid than Tuesday, but went a goal down against the run of play with Greaves failing to spring an offside trap.

Very quick response with a nice team move, capped off by an improvisational back heeled assist from Azon - so cleverly done - to create space for McAteer to smash home from the edge of the area.

Decent game so far.

Half time and 1-1. We’ve been the better team, but the occasional lapse in concentration saw us concede and end the half on the back foot.

Massive improvement so far from what we saw on Tuesday. A lot more hunger and we’re far better pressing wise - which I think Philogene and Azon, in particular, is leading well. Taylor has been great in the middle and the centre backs are solid. I want to see a bit more cutting edge from Davis - who has been seeing a lot of the ball - and Nunez needs to up his levels.

I think we’ll do enough to win and see out the game, but need to be creating better opportunities against a Boro side content to hit on the counter.
