And possibly debuting in a Listed heat to boot which is most unusual. I remembering reading somewhere the few horses that debut in Listed/Group races are extremely profitable to follow after their initial outing. Almost certainly this is because you only introduce something, at such a level, that is at the very least ‘half decent’. Lammtarra was one such horse who did this. The race though does look very hot and Born To Sea while need to live up to his breeding to trouble the judge, methinks. Good luck to him though. Finally, I don’t usually comment on the names of colts but ‘Born To Sea’ is an appalling name and you would have thought that they would have empoyed more originality.
Quite so SBC...I believe Chief Singer debuted in the Coventry Stakes and won it. He was profitable to follow.
Why wouldn't he be able to go over 6f? Running eventual milers over further than 6f as 2yos is a relatively modern habit. It was usual for a 2000G (or indeed 1000G) horse to be aimed at the big October Newmarket 6f races, putting them over a mile was a definite no no. Fashions change but if he's going to be a group horse he should be up to winning over 6f. A certain Brigadier started his career in a listed 5f event (well it wasn't because they didn't exist but it was the then equivalent) as the 100-7 outsider. He won by 5 lengths.
A young horse, say a two year old, with a middle distance pedigree, is sometimes capable of pulling off a G1 sprint. But the more the animal ages, the more the odds of it doing it again diminish. Unless it's a throw back to earlier generations, most will never again be competitive in an open G1 race, such as the King's Stand. If Sea The Stars had been kept in training and been aimed at the Stand as a four year old, I truly believe that he'd have been run off his feet. He'd have been seen powering home after it was all over.
A very interesting interview with Christopher Tsui in today's RP talking about SEA THE STARS and also a few references to BORN TO SEA. The article confirms he goes in the Listed race, so perhaps Mr Oxx got things wrong in his interview at the weekend.
6-1 for the guineas!!!!Looked good but christ who would have money on at that price and at this stage??
Really impressed with him. He might not have beaten anything very good but it was still his debut and he made them look ordinary. He ran very green and still won with any amount in hand. 6/1 looks a little skimpy it must be said, but it was a debut full of promise nevertheless.
Agreed. He won comfortably and although 6/1 is a skinny price he's a near certainty to win a Group 1 next season.
Early in this thread it is said it's a mistake to have entered him for a listed race, now he's definitely going to win a group race. Well maybe, but at the moment he's only won a 6f listed race in good style. He has to go on from that. Anything could happen. What is certain is that he's a rare commodity. Even if he never races again he will have a career mapped out for him at stud. He's worth a pile already. Let's hope that does not impact the way he's raced.
I didn't see the race and limited Internet access means I've only just been able to get on and post. When I stated my surprise that he had been entered in a Listed race 1st time out I should have quantified my reasons. It was surprise due to the fact that John Oxx had given an interview just days before stating that he would be entered in the 1m maiden on the same card. From that perspective the entry appeared to be a mistake. Good luck to the horse, he'll need to be very good indeed if he is to move out from the shadow of his brother(s)! On pedigree there is little chance of him running in the Derby as his sire just does not get middle distance horses, but who knows, perhaps Urban Sea's influence will win through and that little bit of magic is there.
pN it wasn't just you, and your comments were understandable. But it's quite amusing to see a thread swing from 'do they know what they are doing to he'll win a group race'.
