One thing I was happy about with Borini signing was that we'd have someone to track back and protect our pretty crap defence so I dunno about this. I do think though that if it's not working Advocaat won't persist with it in the manner of Poyet and every other fecker we seem to get who seems to be the only person in the stadium who can't see when something's not working.
4-3-3 will not work here, I would rather play 3-5-2, now we have quality midfielders. If we had 3 a multi play players o k, Larsson and rodwell cannot run past the opposition with the ball for some reason. Johnson, Lens, Toivinan ?, Larsson, Mvilla, up front Borini and Defoe. subs fletch, watmore, etc.
I would play Lens, Borini and Defoe with the remit of just swapping positions. They all seem comfortable in the middle or on the wings so rotating positions could be a nightmare for defenders. Expecting us to score at least three with at least two of them three mentioned being on the scoresheet.
After the first four results, the whole bloody team can rotate, mate - on the end of a hawthorn branch!
Regardless of me liking him or not, Advocaat said he can't play the lone role commo. Advocaat also mentioned a poor first touch? So, as I'm simply agreeing with our manager, what difference does it make my opinion on Defoe? AJ is undoubtedly a better footballer (on his day). Whether borini is remains to be seen. It's certainly not unreasonable to think that Borini up top could mean AJ, Toivonen and Lens in behind. And Defoe would be an asset from the bench undoubtedly. But any 4 from those 5 would be good enough for me
Competition for places is good. Borini is very adaptable as is Lens, as is Watmore, as is AJ, as is Ola, they can effectively play multiple positions. It's in Defoe's best interesst to become adaptable too by improving his defensive work rate. Defoe's attacking play from the wide positions has been good. We've got a gaffer who likes to tinker with his 433s constantly. It's up to Defoe to make the other forward spots work for him.
DA prefers a physical prescence up front - we don't have one - agree with FunkyDick imo Borini will not be a target main striker but one member of an attacking trio -maybe DA eventually going for the Dutch style total football at Sunderland ?
now theres an extreme thought - but perhaps rather the CHAMPIONS League....then again no i'm getting carried away with almost unrealistic expectations - a bit dark sided there - I'll just continue dreaming and KTF and ETU
Im the eternal optimist marra.... But.... You're more likely to see Barca in the FA Cup than the lads in the Champions League. Nice thought tho
Agree - I'm a long suffering SAFC fan & I always keep optimistic & often unrealistic thoughts & dreams - older Man City fans never thought they would've been bankrolled to their current status - I live in hope (keeps me happy anyway but liked your post - KTF but ETU -
