Mixed emotions about last night On one hand, I think in hindsight we'll look back at this as a point gained at a tough ground to go to against a very competitive team However, this game was certainly there to be won. It's important to remember that if you lose one and win one it's more points gained than two draws. Why not be bold and go for it? When Onouha and Tom Carroll return to this team then we'll be in a much better position in my opinion. It's a long old season and we only have to put a run together to be back on top of the table. Burnley will slip up and I think they might struggle to bounce back should Ings or Vokes pick up an injury. No need to panic, Cardiff won this league last year despite going 8 games without a win
It's the fans that regularly travel to away games I feel sorry for. HR has clearly decided on an uber cautious approach on the road and is relying on opponents to slip up rather than taking the game to them. This produced some useful results at places like Leeds but is much more likely to produce the kind of result we saw last night. Wigan and others will be quite happy to take a draw against QPR given our pre-season favourites tag. Providing we remain positive at home this strategy may still see us promoted (more likely top 6 IMO) but lord only knows what torture away fans will have to put up with in the coming months.
Harry loves wingers Since the 3rd or so game of the season his two preferred wingers have been injured When they are fit and firing he won't play 5 central midfielders
Look for the boredom to continue. Of course he could play 2 up front as well at Hoilett but then we might actually win a game. Harry Redknapp plans to ignore any temptation to play Charlie Austin and Johnson in tandem and stick with a tried-and-tested formula of one lone Ranger, and one behind in the ‘hole.’ Redknapp explained: “People talk about playing two up, but I thought Junior Hoilett was a big threat to Wigan on Wednesday night in that hole. “So rather than stick two up, Junior in behind was a problem. If you stick two up against centre halves the forwards are easier to mark.”
I posted back in September that our season would be defined when we started playing the top sides in the division, well that's just starting to happen and whilst things aint looking great, a draw at Wigan is not too shabby. Let's see where we are come January. Yeah, it's boring, but we would all forgive 'Arry if we got promoted wouldn't we?
Only by going on a record breaking clean sheet run as well as being very lucky, do you think we will do that for the rest of the season? We havent won when weve conceded since the opening day of the season so all a team has to do is score a single goal to take 2 or three points away from us.
Very good post Sku Good place to be at the moment, with a lot of unleashed potential waiting to come out. "Steeping back from it all - 3rd in the table with just 1 defeat at Hallowe'en - whilst it's no thriller, it's not the stuff of nightmares that the likes of Wolves endured last season." Excellent, I like it
Mad as it might seem, we missed SWP against Burnley. At the very least his pace allows us to get into more advanced positions and drive back the opposing full-back. O Neill's a decent player but he simply can't beat a player on the outside. I'd like to see Sheriff (?) get a chance. We've got alot of experience out there so some young blood couldn't go amiss.
We are playing the same system as 'arry played at his former clubs. Portsmouth were never known as an attacking side while he was there. Tottenham are a different matter. At the time Lennon was playing at his best & Bale was nearly unstopable, Add the creativity of Modric & you had what Redknapp has always wanted. Four at the back, two in midfield basically holding, two wide players with pace to burn & a midfield player playing off of the lone striker. All Tottenham fans that I know used to get fed up with him then withdrawing a forward looking player to replace him with a more defensive type to hold on to a one goal lead. Nothing has changed from that. Are we boring? Well, the fans of every team we have played seem to think so. The most annoying thing to me is that we don't need to sit back. We have the better players who would love to be let off the leash & express themselves.
Every team we have played. Really? Most teams we have played at HQ have set up to get a draw but we are the boring ones?
Glass half empty: we're boring and are lucky to scrape 1-0 wins? Glass half full: not many will stuff us, clean sheets, playoffs at least?
