That reminds me, Ken Follett's historical books are quality, as is his WW1 novel. Quite a lot about Lenin in there.

Obvious he was milking it? It is called character building and all is relevant. If you haven't read it, then you cant say the author is milking it can you? Every book has a great deal of details, you are correct, but he doesn’t write **** for the sake of it. This series is EPIC and it is a shame he died as im sure the ending would have been every bit as magical as the rest of the series. If you are into epic fantasy books like Lord of the rings etc, then this book is for you! (Providing you dumb ****s can read ;))

    Pilgrims Progress by John Bunyan.

Read it when I was 11.

    Remarkable book.

    So vivid and imaginative.

I think you're confusing Pilgrim's Progress with Mein Kampf.

    Mein Kampf was ok.

    The film was better though.

I don't have to read it to know that any story that stretches over 14 books is going to include a lot of filler, and having read the comments of a lot of other people who have read the books I know that there is a lot of unnecessary description in his novels, lots about womens dresses and how they wear their hair but what ever tickles your fancy.

As for milking it, Jordan tried to complete the final novel before he died but sadly he didn't manage it. The publishers then get someone in to finish it and suddenly it becomes 3 books because they know that fans who have read 11 books are highly unlikely to give up on the series without an ending.

I also know that one of the books which is 800 pages long only covers a days worth of events, it'll take you longer than that to read the bloody thing. If that isn't milking it then I don't know what is.

Fair enough, as you said "whatever tickles your fancy". I find it an incredible series, and the events are explained in full which includes a great deal of detail. As I said before, it is character building. Yes he explains what someone is wearing and how they do their hair, but it is all relevant. I also like Dream Theater who play songs that last about 20 mins, but are they milking it, or expressing themselves?

Anyway, I do apologise. I didn’t realise this was a thread where I had to post a book that only TommyNooka approves of!

Correct. I instilled in him his all consuming love for Christianity and God.

He whispered to me something about dark events on the 9/11. Heaven knows what he was blabbering about.

It's always wise to have both sides of an argument especially before someone might decide to start a series of that magnitude, it's over 10,000 pages long!!

Character/world building is always the excuse made for waffle but then that's just my opinion and I'm free to give it.

Joe Abercrombie is the best fantasy author at the moment by a long shot and he seems to be quite prolific (so far at least), the First Law trilogy is the perfect length for a fantasy series.
