I always suspect that people who quote things like 'Catcher in the Rye' and 'To Kill a Mocking Bird' etc. as their favourite book are not really recreational readers. These are simply books that they were made to read at school.

Catcher in the rye is pish, incredibly boring non-story. To Kill a Mockingbird is actually quite good, very slow but at least it's got a plot!

Had to read 'To Kill a Mocking Bird' at school and didn't rate it at all.

I didn't read 'Catcher in the Rye' till I was in my late 20s and didn't see what all the fuss was about. Given that it's mainly about adolescent angst/alienation, it could be that you have to read it during adolescence to really appreciate it.

You must be ****ing joking? I will never ever read a bajillion book series like the Wheel of Time when it's obvious the author was milking it for every penny rather than just getting the story told...and then what does the ****er do? He goes and dies before it's finished and leaves somebody else to do the hard part, actually writing a conclusion.
George RR Martin is heading in exactly the same direction.

I agree, To Kill a Mockingbird is a great book it taught me a lot. I am not remotely prejudiced about anything.

Well, apart from gypo's. I still ****ing hate gypo's.

Fear and Loathing is also top notch.
