Going into lockdown I purchased a book called Newspaper headlines, Bristol City, a history from 1905. It normally sells on Amazon for about £40. I found one on FaceBook marketplace in Wrexham of all places for the princely sum of £5.

It contains full copied newspaper sports pages from 1905 and mine goes up to 2014, it's the sort of book I pick up now and again and read the whole page, it contains not only BCFC games but other games and sometimes cricket and rugby stories.

Last night I decided to take a look from 1958, the period where I started to become a regular at Ashton Gate with my dad.

What a page, firstly there was a write up on City winning 4-7 at Barnsley (John Atyeo scoring a hatrick of course).

But I was also struck by the size of the crowds back then, even Palace who were then in the old 4th division got 18,000 + that night.

I have attached a few photos.
