By that logic Norfolk we would never play any players with potential in case they get an injury. So we just fold because the player wants to move, He gets his move when the circumstances are right for us, not just in case he sulks. I am happy for him but once again the bigger club has had the better deal.
So what? Bony knew the valuation on him was realistic at 30+. City cheap skated it because of their financial constraints. We've lost a player that is the complete package - goal scorer, target man, play maker, set piece defender - for less than Everton paid for Lukaku who has done absolutely **** in comparison. Somebody's not thinking straight. Trading in fear and aversion to risk is asking for trouble - fear of a Bony tantrum (I think he's much more mature than that) - or fear of a Bony injury ..... what about the fear of not finding anybody in the squad who can hit the ****ing net. So far all we've seen of Gomis is that he can head the ball on target, but his shots are a lot closer to the corner flag than the net. The trouble is we usually can't cross for ****. Gomis is not going to score like Bony .... so Gomis plus A.N.Others are going to have to kick it into gear. When are we signing Mr. Others because he (they) are not on board at the moment.
I don't have a problem with him leaving for Champions League football, if we had stood in his way, we would have been breaking a promise I imagine. Agree though - we have been low-balled. Not sure how we weren't able to get other clubs to out-bid City though, they all must have known it wouldn't have taken much more due to the FFP City are under.
I don't think Bony would have thrown his toys out of the pram for 1 minute....I believe he was paid a sum (some say £1m) to sign that new contract and waive his clause. Having paid him a large amount of cash to commit a little longer we should have protected ourselves against such possible tantrums in the new contract that he signed. I don't believe it was in his character or in his interest to behave this way anyhow. If we held out we might have got a much bigger amount right at the end of the window. If no such bid was received we would have got it in the summer following 4 more months of banging them in for fun for us in the Prem. If he wanted the move to the Champions League Club it would have been in his interest to continue to play at his best.
I wish Bony all the best it has been a pleasure watching him. Anyone who thought he wouldn't move to a bigger club here or in Europe was living in cloud cuckoo land. Unlike some who think it is either him or Aguerro in the team I think that because of Bony's better all round game I think they can both start and play off each other and can see Man City pipping Chelsea for the title. If the board did pay Bony £1 million to get rid of his buy out clause they must have agreed to let him go to the club he wanted. However if the £25 million is correct then we have undervalued him..
Oh dear I think I'm in the minority here in more ways than one I say suck it up guys. I don't think it's a bad deal at all. Mention has been made of the sell on money for Vitesse but we'd have to find that whatever the case. Selling a player for a few million short of our own valuation of £30M when we only paid £12M for him is dreamland for me as a Swans fan. It's called negotiation, and it looks like we didn't have to lose too much ground from our starting point which I don't think was far off the mark. Not having a go people but I must be missing something reading some of the comments about how we've been ripped off because I don't agree at all.
So 5m below what we wanted isnt much. Perhaps we have more money than most think or you know better. I call it a lot below for a striker who is possibly one of the best in the PL and certainly the highest scorer in 2014.
I think given the comparables out there it's a bit hard to swallow (Lukaku the prime example but yes he is 4/5yrs younger)
Master and he hasnt done a great deal. but I suppose he came from Chelsea and even though they don't see him as good enough for them. I guess they are better negotiators.
I disagree about sucking it up, why should we and so what if we bought him for 12 million other clubs could have taken the chance but didn't, the trouble is we appear to have on the Board people with the same mindset as ours we should be in dreamland , my arse .We've been ripped off for the very reasons quoted above .Let me know when you want to sell your car
Let's put this 5 million discount in context. We paid 8 million for Fed - a world cup final defender. So we gave up 63% of an experienced world cup final defender. I wasn't aware we were either that stupid or that flush or that cavalier with cash.
What the hell are some fans on about. We have got a fantastic deal for bony much more than he is really worth not knowing how he will perform with man city. we have more than doubled what we paid for him a repetitively short time ago and as he wanted to go anyway then we have got a fantastic deal. It would be an even better deal if he ends up another Jase the ace and ends up a flop with a bigger club, I hope that dont happen and he is a success but its a big ask with the other players he has competition for a place for. Well happy with what we got that smashes every deal we have done in the past. I wish him all the best but as he is no longer a jack then i dont care how he does from now on, how he will do is of no interest to me any more...good luck to him.
What we got is an offer we could not turn down, It is a brilliant offer for an unknown entity. All the risk is with Man city as it wont be the first or the last time a player wont be as good as they hope he is...
I don't understand what unknown entity, a proven goal scorer who's scored the most in the PL to date this year ,and that in a team where supply to him hasn't been the best that could have been .City are not taking a risk as their coffers are larger than ours in comparative terms , ,they've much more to gain than lose than us imo .
How can some be happy with the drop of 5m :| I mean is 5m worth nothing to you guys? Are we in a position to lose up to 5m extra profit? Do we have any bloody ambition. 25m may still be a lot of money when we only paid 12m, but so is 30m. We wanted 30m, Man City wanted to give 25m, tell me what negotiation is there in this for our benefit, as lets face it the performance payment is bollocks. If we had agreed a up front fee of around 27-28m, then that's negotiation done well, not this crap. Or even if the performance payments wasn't so bloody crazy it wouldn't have been so bad. What has Man City winning all these trophies got to do with us and the Bony deal. Bony could set the world on fire and score a bloody hat ful, yet Man City could still avoid payment by not winning one of the tournaments they mentioned. Even more crazy is that he has to have played in 60% of the games, when they have the likes of Aguero ffs. This is pure win win for Man City.
Some of you need to get a perspective, you'd swear we have just been ripped off for crying out loud, tell me again how much we paid for bony? to make the profit we have in just 18 months is fantastic and the way I see it Citeh showed the colour of their money, while end of last season all the talk was of Arsenal buying him for £19 Million which turned out to be their usual window shopping, I'm very happy with this deal, some of you need to get a grip....................
