You want to combat a terrorist group in one country by starting a trade war with another fellow NATO member which would play havoc with their economy, rock international politics in controversy and put completely unrelated innocent people out of business and into poverty. ****ing hell marra. That's a twisted and poorly hatched plan <yikes> NATO will be pleased.

It's just posturing mate. Turkey would back down immediately as they would be a million times worse off. Imported ISIS oil is a tiny percentage of their economy compared to something like 20% that would be cut off by 4 or 5 countries threatening to pull out of trade with them.

What you're proposing is disgusting and will deeply effect the innocent public of Turkey. You're talking about an economic attack on a fellow NATO country.

I appreciate everything that has been done by anyone who has served in the forces, and I also accept that they will always have tunnel vision on any matters like this. It's fine with me and I expected it.

You do realise these kind of sanctions exist and are in place across the world? You know we have nuclear weapons not so that we ever actually have to use them, but because of the MAD principle? This is exactly the same.

I do, I also know that it has to be legal. That could take years. We don't have years. We need to do something now.

Thinks can be passed in a week if the desire to do so is there.

What if they don't back down immediately? Cause hunger, homelessness and ultimately death on the innocent people of Turkey? Might as well just drop a bomb on them too and save them the suffering <ok>

Is this still going on? FFS.

Trade bans on Turkey, the US's single most important strategic ally in the event that they go into Iran. <doh>

I take exception to your inference Cardew, that my judgement is somehow clouded by my military past. You seem to imply that you are somehow more qualified to talk sensibly about this than I am, you don't know 5% of what is happening in this conflict, I can guess that it'll be extremely similar to Telic of which I was heavily involved, that's why I'm not discussing this with you, you are assuming way, way to much for me to even bother with your ranting.

WOuld never go that far though <laugh> This is why major nations such as US, Uk, Germany are in charge of the rest...we can effectively tell them what to do. That's why we have G8.

I know mate. If there was a better way to do it we would. It's not ideal but war and terror never have been.

I haven't inferred your judgement is clouded, I have inferred that ex and current military will inevitably have one, very clear feeling on the matter that they won't deviate from under any circumstances. Not clouded judgement just a different perspective.

Are you saying you have faith in this government to make correct decisions? because I have to say that flies in the face of some of your previous statements.

Make your mind up then mate. You aren't being very clear here. If Turkey refuse to back down, are you putting full sanctions over everything or not?

If so, then it's a possibility it could go that far.

Then it goes back to, we can tell them not to buy the oil, doesn't mean they are going to listen though.

It's very, very profitable. I wouldn't trust Turkey not to continue doing backhanded deals with ISIS, like they do now...

I've got a timeline full of military mates doing my head in saying the same ****e as you, on Fartbook. I'm closing my account whilst these chumps are blabbing on and on on social media like it'll make a difference.

There's obviously better ways to do everything, but I prefer our battles to be completely one sided and unfair, I hope civilian casualties are kept to a minimum but our pilots coming home safe is what matters most to me.
