Not very good today. As Bucky says, too much messing about at the back. I don't think Evans is that great on free kicks and corners, Morsy did play well and battled and got forward again. Too many poor passes and giving possession away put us under unnecessary pressure. Oh well, on to the next one.
Burns, Penney and Evans very much the weak links today. So many problems with today and all of it with the execution. Lots of static sideways and backward passing, nobody bringing the ball forward looking for a pass even when they’re in acres of space. Essentially though we lost the game because our defensive system left us exposed over and over again and our forward play was muddy, Burns and Evans playing like they were wading through mud and Penney way out of his depth as a wing back.
I just wonder if the overall lack of energy, zip, pushing forward, appalling give aways might have something to do with the long distance coach trip, a bad experience, or if staying overnight, a poor noisy hotel? As a team, they didnt show up. Interesting to see how KM will react.
I don’t think so, it was the same players slowing it down and it was the insistence on short passing that made us entirely predictable. If we are going to play that way then occasionally we need to play through the middle or hit a diagonal pass to mix it up. In that case though we also need the receiving players to do a hell of a lot better than they did today.
