I believe these Belgian elections are not until later next year.......so,the likelihood of this project ever coming to fruition is pretty remote as surely we’ll be in the hands of new owners by then.
FHB: The most telling anecdote about RD was when he shat himself when 40 SL fans stormed his office. This is not like Simon Oelman and the 1980s Greenwich Labour Party - RD isn’t seeking electoral approval in St Truiden. I doubt he gives a sh1t.
Much as I fancy myself as an international statesman, I haven't been asked. You can only throw fruit which passes EU regulations
So you'd be quite happy for Charlton Athletic to be run by a gang of thugs and hooligans, who smash up property and threaten people with beatings to get what they want. And once they've frightened Duchatelet and his employees away, who would you unleash them against next? A) The new owner, if he makes unpopular decisions? B) Other Charlton supporters who disagree with your point of view? C) Our manager if he loses three games in a row? D) Players who aren't trying hard enough? E) Anybody else you don't like (fanzine sellers for instance)? Once you use violence to get what you want one time, where does it end?
To be fair to RD - he didn’t look like he shat himself. He just sat there. As for the election - I’m neither here nor there with it. Fair play to them for doing something. I guess they’ve jumped on the back of RD’s comments from last week and trying to help push him through the door.
That’s a bit extreme lardi. My general point is that 4 years worth of plastic pigs, black and white scarves & marches hasn’t worked. SL fans did something different & shifted him out much quicker. I know we don’t have the fan base to do something similar.
Nobody really knows whether or not storming his office played a part in his decision. They didn't threaten him, he just sat there staring blankly until their tirade petered out. How many were there, 5 or 6? I'm sure it would be easy enough to find 5 or 6 Charlton fans who would do the same, like the bloke on the Watford train for example. The fact that Roland thinks the CEO needs 2 bodyguards shows that in his mind at least there is a physical threat, although the reality is different. The reason Roland gave for selling was that he couldn't own 2 Belgian clubs, and he wanted STTV, his home town. So you may be putting 2+2=5.
Sorry, I didn't mean to offend by sounding too extreme. But violence is extreme. How would each of us feel if we heard news that our CEO had been assaulted. It wouldn't matter if it was a random mugging or a targeted attack by a thug with a grudge against her. Surely we would be sickened. I can't believe even the most ardent anti-regime supporter among us would feel secretly pleased to hear of such a thing. I'm not trying to sound pro-KM or get people feeling sorry for her. She deserves no sympathy whatsoever, especially when she plays the gender card. But I want to believe we are all decent folk, and our anger does not mean a desire to see anybody hurt. I'll not drone on any more about it now - I'm aware I am sounding even more preachy than usual...
Not sure that's true Will http://www.newsshopper.co.uk/sport/..._creating__Roland_Out_Today__political_party/
You are one of the last Great British Gentlemen there Lardi If Meire got mugged ? .... I wouldn't give a 5hit.... after all she's used to it!... ask Liverpool FC
There wasn't any violence when the SL fans stormed his office, there weren't 40 of them, there were a handful of fans shouting at him all at once, a bit of a rabble. The whole myth that that incident forced him out seems to have become the reality in the same way the myth that Charlton fans forced Curbs out has. After Roland sells up I expect that the myth that CARD forced him out will be the reality for some.
'Mugged' as in being made to look like a mug by not knowing how to negotiate a decent price for a player, rather than being unexpectedly introduced to a sand filled sock.
To be fair Mick is in a no win situation and he has never been anything but super considerate to us fans. Other that that my lips are sealed.
