Putting aside my reservations about FARKE and customary first 10 minutes of FarkeBall last night, I have to say things are starting to look good if the Bogle deal happens today. I also liked the news that Aaronson returned early and is raring to go, plus FARKE says Wober is staying and important. So we go from struggling in defence to having a solid platform and cover all across the back. Bogle, Rodon, Struijk, Wober, Firpo, Byram with Bogle able to play anywhere at the back and Ampadu able to play CB, but not RB like last night. If we are able to keep Summerville and add Aaronson into the mix as winger or 10 I believe we have the makings of a much stronger team than last season. There will still be the odd player leaving and a couple arriving but so far so good. Rothwell looked decent in the main but really a bench player. Ampadu needed in the middle with Gruev but we still have the problem of what we do with Piroe and Gelhardt. Piroe again fairly absent last night as we don’t seem to know how to play with a 9. Joseph looked pretty good again but chasing his tail rather being a classic 9 as we don’t cross the ball. Gelhardt at 9 had the same problem but when he moved to play 10 he was at least trying to link play and came into the game pretty good late on with some runs, creative passing and a long range strike. Very early days yet but can see Joffy on his way and maybe even Piroe especially if we bring in a good 10. Controversial players Wober and Aaronson could be the big difference this season and it looks like FARKE is messing about with back 3 tactics to change his options tactically.
I think a back 3 could suit the players we have. Firpo is more a wing back and we get the best out of him going forward. We have 3 CB who are comfortable coming out with the ball in Rodon, Struijk and Ampadu which will cause teams that want to press us and man mark our midfielders real problems. It would mean that going forward Ampadu goes into MF and we revert to a back 2, as we seemed to do last night. It should mean that our MF can be much more progressive and as long as we get good movement up front, unlike England, we should create spaces. It's dangerous just leaving 2 back but I don't think we'll do it against better teams. I see it as a way to over load the low block.
If you play that, what are you going to do with all of our wingers, Summerville, James and Gnonto (if he stays)?
You set up as a 5-2-3. When attacking we go to 2-5-3 with Ampadu and the wingbacks pushed up into midfield. Thus we still require 2 wingers and a centre forward. btw I should say I'm not favouring that tactic, just showing how it could be used
If the rumours are true that Bogles fee is £5 million then the 49ers have struck a very good deal again. Sheff Utd rate him as a £10 million player but wanted £7 million given his contract running out next summer. We've paid £5 million. Great stuff if it all comes off.
My 12 year old son is right handed but left footed. He plays cricket for the village u13 side and he bats left handed and right handed. He doesn't realise he does it.
Solid young Fullback for this league which we need. Had big time out 21/22 season with his knee but it doesn't look to have hindered him. kept fit will be another decent addition.
