I like the idea of Moyes and O'Neill. As O'Neill is available I feel he is the natural choice.

5 million to pay for Brucie's golden handshake and 4-8 million to buy Moyes out of his contract... We bought Bruce out of his contract and it was the wrong choice.

I believe that the most natural choice is likely to be the right choice.

    Waddle and Hoddle.

We've had the comedian, might as well have the chanters on now, before the bingo.

All the so called 'big names' are nice thoughts but the reality is we are simply not in a position to attract that post of individual.

Far better we turn to a man like Martin o Neill who will know our squad of players, enjoy the challenge, have no language barriers, recognise the needs of our club and above all, could start from day one putting right the mess Bruce has left behind.

He is available and refreshed and ready for one final hurrah. He has won trophies at every club bar Villa but did get them to 3 consecutive top 6 finishes before he fell out with the owners. I'd settle for that.

There will be many thoughts and opinions on this subject but only this one ticks almost every box for SAFC imo.

Martin o Neill come on down.

There is no language barrier with a Dutch manager they all speak excellent English and have great c.vs to match Van Basten or Hiddink for me

Gus hiddink would be impossible, i believe he is going to the Russian 'Man city type ' club mega wealthy and is going to get £22m a year! or over 3 seasons whatever. ancellotti would be great, Van basten yes. What about the great Franz beckenbaur, he would have plenty of connections in football and vast experience. Benitez is more realistic though, also Peter reid is available!, if we wanted a devoted ex SAFC player Gary rowell, Gary bennett, Paul bracewell or Micky gray. Just a note about the Arsenal game, i was not happy the way the ref just about pushed Vaughn off the pitch to save time. Other players seem to take ages to get up, they should bring a stretcher straight on in the future and get them off quick.

You're dead right Cest, We are still NOT big enough to temp any of this lot. I would LOVE to pay for Moyes to fly the nest with a kitty in January that he can only dream of at Everton. Would he? Could he? ........ Everton fans....... Should he ?

I really cant see why we cant attract a big name. That Russian club that I had never heard off until a couple of months ago have managed to get Etoo and maybe Hiddink, just with flashing the cash really (how they will comply with the FFP i have no idea though).

We have a great stadium with the 4th best capacity (if you dont include Wembley) and it can still be expanded as well, I know thats a long way away, but success on the pitch, will lead to more people wanting to be part of it.
We have a great Accadamy and youth set up.
    We have a billionaire owner.
Some of the best Suporters in the land, who are loyal through and through (they may bitch and moan on message boards ;), but they still turn up week in week out).

I really cant see how we cant attract a top class manager, who is out of work, twidling his thumbs if we offer to pay them enough.

Downside is, turnover (but then that russian club cant have a huge turnover)
    The Area.
    The City.

I have nothing against the bottom 2, but a foreign manager might.

Steve - the Russian club you'd never heard of are richer than Chelsea mate and are paying Eto £300k per week.

If we had Jose Mourinho in charge of us, we couldn't match that level of wealth.

O Neill can work, as he has done with many other clubs, with a fixed budget. What he fell out with the Villa owner over was a broken promise. He was promised certain money for new players and then had that money taken away. He isn't a quitter but a very principled man.

O Neill would be a wonderful acquisition for us imo.

I know they have cash, so do we, well short does, just like their owner does, but if they can do it, why do we have to piss about with the fair play rules, as its on turnover, I cant see them being like Man U abroad (280 million turnover) so how can they get away with it?

And like i said, if we pay someone enough, they will come, its the paying them enough thats the problem.

As for O`Neill, something i dont like about him, turned us down once at least, maybe twice, quit Villa (he was promised funds, he got funds, the funds dried up for him, they wanted to bring more youth through and play with what they had, he stormed off).

I just dont like the bloke, if he came I would give him 100% but i just cant see why everyone thinks he is the bees knees and the one to take us forward (5 years ago before Keane, yes, now, no thanks)

I am not sure myself, Moyes would be my choice and IMO is the best manager in the league, I am not sure about MON but to be honest I am getting to the point where I am going to be joining the BOB brigade. Bruce was never my first choice, I will always back whoever is the Sunderland manager but we need some win's and we need them soon.

I cant believe everyone is missing the obvious choice.
If we can hold on till next summer, one of the greatest club managers of recent times will be collecting his p45.

I don't rate Capello as an international manager at all, but you can't deny his club record.
I don't think for one second he would come, but just imagine if he did.

Sorry mate but I don't buy into it. European managers, can manage European footballers and their continental mentality. Successful Premier Euro managers (Wenger, Hiddink, AVB, Benitez, et al) all managed teams consisting of mainly continental / foreign playing staff. Dalglish ....... has brought in Adam, Downing, Henderson, Wilson, Bellamy, Carroll.

SAFC have a British core, that usually means, a la Dalglish, we need British management. Bruce has always flattered to deceive with the Brum and Wigan but inevitably, got nowhere fast.

MON has his believers but at 59 can he still do it? He is very much available though.
David Moyes is 48 and celebrates his 10 years at Everton next March...... that may be an Anniversary he wishes to keep ??? It will cost big bucks for sure...
Mark Hughes must defo have an axe to grind following the previous short lived appointments at Citeh and Fulham, will his hunger be best served at the SoL ??

A defeat to Bolton and the waiting may be over for sure !!

I was talking to a client at work today who is an Arsenal fan. I mentioned I was a Sunderland fan and his first remark was that he "Always liked Steve Bruce as he was a good bloke". I replied by saying "Hows about we swap Wenger for Bruce as I'm sure I could broker a deal with the two chairman", he laughed but never accepted my offer. He must like Bruce aslong as he is a Sunderland manager and not an Arsenal manager. :)
