On the surface of our transfer dealings it looks like we've had a great window but actually we've only made a sideways move at best. Siggy £45M - R Sanches Loan+4M. Risky and not a permanent solution, but could prove to be a master stroke if he is as good as they say. Llorente £12M - Bony £12M. Again risky, selling an inform striker for an out of form player. Jack Cork £10M - Clucas £15M. Looks to be an upgrade but only time will tell. Mesa, £11M. Hasn't shined or even featured much since his move. Jury still out Tammy Loan. Decent player and definitely has potential but we can't rely on him all season. Verdict: How Stupid do they think we are. Even though the signing of Sanches is an eye catching one we still need to invest in players for the future and all we have done is paper over the cracks. We needed a RB and a Kingsley replacement at LB. What are we going to do if one of our fullbacks picks up an injury? Play Rangel? The board are doing well tough
Tammy and Sanches are both novices and both a gamble. Hopefully they will step up but are not upgrades. Clucas is solid and dependable a decent replacement for Cork. Wilf, love him, could be as **** for us as he was for Stoke ... gamble. We haven't brought in pace, goals or the defenders we are screaming for. I believe we are weaker than we were at the end of last season.
I am hoping Sanches brings some pace to run at a defence to open them up and create space for whoever we have playing up front
I think Wilfs problems last season with stoke was mainly down to his injury and Mark Hughes. Looking at it, he's been quite unlucky after leaving us. (Malaria, injuries and change of management) I'm just not convinced he's as good as Llorente, although he can do the same job and if he can recapture his form we'll have a like for like player with more years ahead. I'd loved to have kept Llorente until Wilf has settled back in. I think we're always too quick to sell our players and easily crumble when the smell of money is under HJ's big nose.

Good post! I suppose it could be "argued" that Mesa has replaced Cork, whilst Clucas "covers off" Kingsley's departure, and Abrahams in for Borja. All in all, it seems to me that at best the squad is "as strong" - or is that "as weak" - as the one that finished last season. One "plus" is that Clement has had a full pr-season with most of the squad, one downside, our competitors have all largely strengthened. When you think of all the other guys off the payroll, it's been a decent window ...... for the owners
From what I have seen (clips an recall of the Euros) and had a word with a Porto fan that's not his game. He tends to supply the suppliers. "Facilitator ... holding but higher up the pitch. Centre of a three." Time will tell. Once he gets up to speed, I think he'll be very good at doing what he does but we needed so much more. I'd forgotten Wilf had been struck with malaria!
