    Dumbest statement ever?
Probably not, but still utterly stupid, you may as well say all PL footballers are just greedy bastards, all politicians are self-serving scum, all police are pigs etc. etc.
He is a rich man who has taken a large paycut to become an MEP, even when you factor in all his expenses, he does the job with a simple policy, tell the truth and try and show the average Joe just how badly mismanaged and democratically challenged the EU actually is.

One of the reasons I don't think I could ever get into politics is it doesn't pay enough. Sure you will get along modestly if you become an MP, but there are only 600 or so of those in the whole country - the average GP gets paid over twice the salary of an MP and the country needs tens of thousands of GPs.

You'd have to go back to college for a few years to be a GP, if they would take you? This online bookie thing is pretty lucrative then? You come across as a "doer" Mike an I expect you'll do well whatever you do. Must admit I didn't even get a job until I was 26, dropped out of college and dropped out of eveything else for a few years.

The online bookie thing does ok for someone like myself who has little formal qualifications but I'd rather have a GPs wage... or even an MPs.

I was only making an example of a GP, but a Member of Parliament's wage is not really that high at all in comparison to a lot of jobs.

If you were to get paid 63k a year as the average MP does you would only see about 43k after tax and national insurance. Sure it used to be good because you had all sorts of mad expenses you could fiddle, but now the freedom of information act has screwed you right up.

So what does 63k a year buy you after tax? Well a trusting bank would give you a mortgage for about 240k which will buy you an average size house in a lower middle class part of London. The 3.5k a month will then have about £1250 taken out for mortgage payments (if it's your first family home you can't claim it). So about 550 quid a week change to spend on everything else in life - which let's face it is not exactly going to pay for a playboy lifestyle, more like the lifestyle of a squad player in a League 2 football team.

If you were well educated or even just intelligent and ambitious you'd probably make much more money elsewhere, which goes a long way to explaining why we have so many idiots running the country.
