The most important piece of the puzzle, the manager, and how he has galvanised what he has at his disposal is very impressive so far, seems to have them all singing off the same hymn sheet, with a desire to actually attack and defend as a team. Add to that some very astute signings and I think we have a very competitive squad, barring a series of serious injuries like we had last year. I think we all have every reason to be optimistic this season at least.

Is it blind optimism of a new season or genuine belief that we have a decent squad and manager.

Dont get me wrong I'm not saying we're going to finish in the top two or anything but my feeling for the start of this season compared to last season is polar opposite. That's without considering the financial turmoil were having to put up with.

I was thinking this before today's signings which only strengthens my feelings.

UP THE TIGERS
others have said it, but will repeat it anyway, this has been our best transfer window in years. Having to work in a limited market and bringing in a number of experienced champ players, with the 3 lads we've got to come back as well.....wow

thing is, thats not the compliment it should be

Think with a full side out we look a very competitive side, it’s still early but in certain positions I think we have some key players who we don’t want injured. We definitely have an experienced squad. The first thing we need to do is address the terrible home record we had last season. No wonder we struggled and it went to the last game. However it’s another new start with a number of different players and manager so let’s see how we go.

Not saying you are definitely implying it, though some are, I don't think the type of recruitment is simply down to us being under the EFL restriction. It seemed clear that the approach to signings, the profile of players we were looking to bring in, etc had already changed. I'd say that was primarily down to a combination of a) lessons learnt, b) the influence of Dublin c) the added influence of Hodges, and probably other factors too, including now the influence & pragmatism of SJ.
Evidence: Egan, Crooks, Joseph, Ajayi, Matazo, Philips (arguably Laalaoui). A different blend of players than we'd seen previously.

I'm impressed with the squad we're building given the constraints. That doesn't necessarily mean I'd be impressed with it outside of those constraints, especially if Acun's still going to fire Sergi for not making the top 6. It's a step in the right direction and if nothing else everything feels far more relaxed, despite of the mess we seem to be in, but IMO, the proof will be in the pudding, let's see where we are, and if we still have the same manager, come the end of the season.
