Yeah. A decent match report if people like reading http://boards.footymad.net/forum.php?tno=463&fid=221&sty=2&act=1&mid=2116229785
Today started with me breaking both my glasses and my phone within minutes of each other, thought it was going to be a long day. But just got in from work to see this result, great stuff lads Also, hope you're ok Tewkes
Yes, very fair. I feel quite sorry for the poor guy. He does need a copy-editor though. My favourite parts were: "from a substation they were able to take the lead" "I did predict after we beat some of the better teams that a truer test would be when we played some of the better teams. A lot of critics said we had played some of the better teams and offered to me who was the so called better teams. It seems we have now found out that we had not played some of the better teams ... "
You have two sets of glasses?? Six eyes!! Hope everything's OK Tweakes. Yeah EF, there are some errors, but it's a fair report. Very long, mind. I think he's being a little generous to us for the first half, but in the away end there it's very difficult to have a proper perspective on the match
Hamer 7 - flapped at a few saves but generally comfortable with crosses and his passes were sublime (stick him on the wing I say ) Solly 7 - stood out a bit less than in previous games but still had a great game, I rate him over both Francis and Frazier Richardson too. Taylor 6.5 - a bit anonymous (as usual) but couldn't have been doing much wrong as we kept a clean sheet Morrison 7.5 - the CB he always seems to get stuck in the most, headed away every ball that came near him and marked brilliantly (other than that moment where Evans done him about 3 times in a row) Wiggins 8 - I've criticised him a lot recently but today he was immense. Waggy 7.5 - big improvement on recent performances and he was even better when switched to CF for ten minutes. Never stopped running today and always wanted the ball. Stephens 6.5 - a bit anonymous (bar that mis-hit volley) but spread the ball well at times Hollands 7 - typical performance from him, maintained possession well, good range of passing and plenty of tackling. J.J 6 - very anonymous I thought, not many crosses into the box and didn't get into many decent positions. Links up well with Wiggins though. Hayes 6 - bit of a bad game from him I thought, but I'm not going to say I want him dropped because he's been doing very well so far this season. BWP 7 - typically you don't expect much from him other than for him to score, although I thought he struggled a bit today, one chance where he could have easily put it into the back of the net, he then held it and turned round the defender, then put it a few metres wide - not the clinical finishing we come to expect, but can't be too harsh, played pretty well and got a goal. Kermorgant 9 - what more can be said that hasn't already? So pleased for him getting the goal, and his hold-up skillls (and his flick-on's) are second to none at this club. Quite frankly I think he's too good for this league (and that's having only played 3 cameo performances!) Green 7 - not enough tome to make too much of a difference but showed great close-control, fearlessness and nearly got on the scoresheet. Hughes 6 - not much time on the pitch so hard to judge, but did alright. CAFC Fans 9 - great atmosphere mostly, would give us a ten, but the bloke who continuously tried to get the left side to join in with the Ched Evans song for the whole duration of the game was a bit embarrassing.
Funny how different people see the same game on BBC London they had BWP as man of the match ,waggy very poor and Taylor and morrison immense and Hamer saving us in the second half.
Hamer had a good second half. First half he was OK, but flapped at crosses. First half he was right in front of the away fans, so understandable that this would be the strongest memory of those who travelled. Waggy was too central for my liking, he seemed to wander inside, which meant that he didn't offer Solly an outlet and BWP was pushed out wide right at times. I'm inclined to think that was tactical rather than blaming Wagstaff. In the second half, he looked better, but whinged a bit for some of the fans around me. Looked good when he moved up front. Don't think anyone has contradicted the Morrisson/Taylor point.
True enough IA re Morrison/ Taylor. Jackson was quiet but he made a vital clearance off the line at 0 0 .
Waggy didn't do too much for me, but he's been ever present in this winning start so he has to remain for me.
Agree and CP is big on togetherness team spirit. Loved the huddle at the end with CP giving each player congratulations.
Finally home from the long weekend up there. Sorry to hear about your accident tewkes, we saw a number of them on the way up (we left at 7) and a really nasty one with a guy that had fallen off a bike on the M1. The game was brilliant, United were the better team in the first half but we didn't play badly (unfortunately we were right at the front just to the left of the goal so allot of the action we saw was at eye level, but you could see us on the football league show ) Couldn't have asked for a better result, and with the other teams losing, i'm starting to believe we can go up this year. Jacko did clear off the line but i'm also sure solly did as well towards the end of the first half? Had a great night out too, and hotel we stayed in was awesome, all in all the best away game i've been too so far (which is a welcome change having been to blackburn, blackpool and sef wed away were we conceded 5 goals each game!)
Glad you enjoyed yourself Haysey - yes, I'm still in one piece, thank you - which is more than can be said for my beautiful Qashqai... Where did you stay? I used to go to Sheffield every month and there's some lovely places there.
Tewkes we stay in the holiday inn express, very nice. Last time we came (about 2 years ago) we stayed on the jury's out which was very nice as well.
sorry to hear about your accident Tewkes but nice to hear that it wont be painful re insurance submission. COYR: great result. my digibox decided it doesnt like football league show and didnt record it. so got to wait for CAFC player to see the goals
Why did the Football League Show put on extended highlights of two Championship matches? Surely our tussle with Sheffield United was more important than Portsmouth versus Leeds. They should have extended highlights of a match from each league. I would be more than happy to watch Bradford get another tonking. Did anyone see the League One team of the weekend in The Sun? Not one Charlton player! Doh!
That doesn't worry me at all. I remember when the boys team I ran won the league by a fair margin but not one of our players was selected for the League representative team. I took that as a personal compliment. Which one of our players was individually outstanding on Saturday? Far better to have a high overall level of performance each week than have outstanding individuals who can get targeted and leave us vulnerable when not playing because irreplaceable. In fact we do have such a player in BWP. Not only do we have no-one as good, but we have no-one else of that type. He played well enough on Saturday but was not outstanding and no doubt one or two other strikers performed better on that day.
If there was an extended highlights match on the FLS, it could well have been Hartlepool v Wednesday, after the special piece on Solano. Not sure that there should be extended highlights of L1 on the FLS. If anything, it gives me a laugh to look on Owlstalk of a Sunday and see them whining about how no one is paying attention to their triumphant march up to 7th or 5th or wherever they are in the league and how there was no extended highlights of their match against Yeovil
