I’m confused HR … you have ripped our squad to pieces and trashed the manager and then said we have one of the top six squads in the league. Perhaps it’s ‘lost in translation’ or (as is more likely) I’m an idiot.
Maybe HR you should support Chelsea they have what you expect, top players, top manager and a massive budget. However QPR have a very limited budget and are doing extremely well with it with limited players and a good manager. I’m bored of your moaning.
You are not an idiot mate, everyone has their own view on everything QPR, just some are more views are maybe more realistic than others. We are 6th and we have had the privilege of watching a team who have been considerably more exciting than recent seasons
Haven't trashed the entire squad lol and Warburton does alot of things well I just don't believe he's the man to take us to the next level, his tactics are a little one dimensional . I do believe our squad on paper is in the top 6 in the league ( can you name me 4 better without the top 3 ? ), it doesn't necessarily mean we playing to our potential . Alot on here say we are punching above our weight but who else has 3 strikers at their disposal like we do ? Without Mitrovic Fulham would be in a world of pain , their back up strikers aren't as good. Brom have Grant who is scoring their goals but again their back ups aren't great. Bournemouth have Solanki and again not much to back him up. We have a very able keeper who hasn't hit the heights of last season but still very decent. We have some decent defenders but some who need replacing, the midfield should be excellent once Field returns. Indeed we have alot of choices in there with a couple of very gifted play makers. I only think we are 2 wing backs and 1 centre half short of being nailed on play off contenders. The 2 wing back positions should of been sorted in the summer. Mccallum is an unfortunate one as he looked highly promising, only to become a fully paid up member of the hoops invalid society. But Odebajo was a rushed decision based on one pre season game v Utd and tge fact he'd previously played for Warburton at Brentford. However that was a good few seasons back and his record since should've flagged up caution, allied to that his goals scored and assists record then I would've been looking elsewhere for that position. Obviously the fact it didn't cost us anything was a big part of the deal, also I think we thought Kakay was going to be better than he has been and he was brought in to be back up. The Centre half needs to be a leader as I don't see any of the 4 currently playing as that sort, plus we need one with pace who can spot the danger from one simple long ball over the top ! So all in all yes our squad is strong and probably where it should be. After all we finished just outside the play offs last season and we are meant to have strengthened.
Behave pal, we've had these conversations in the past and you said the same things back then lol. Don't think you've forgiven me for pipping you in the prediction league ! It's not always about the budget in this league as you well know, we did get a certain Taarabt for 1 million if you recall. It's about spending what you have wisely and utilising the players you have. When I first went to Qpr we had the top players and the top manager not the scum, and we've had plenty more since then. You say we have limited players , but would you call Chair or Willock limited players ? We certainly have others that are limited , and it's those I'd like us to replace. It's not moaning, it's simply wanting us to have a better side. I'm not asking us to go out and splash the cash just bring in a couple of loans in January that will help us attain a play off place !
I've been out all day on a Fire Brigade memorial to a fallen soul and legend of a fireman, who passed during Covid. None of us could attend his funeral, so we held a memorial gathering at the metropolitan next door to Baker Street station. My daughter was keeping me up to date with text updates. I know nothing of the proceedings but four points out of two away games seems like a good return given what we've spent etc. Anyone c*nting off the team needs to give their head a wobble. Despite our limitations, we're punching above our weight. We're in as good a place as we've ever been for the last eight seasons. A top ten finish is still a good result. Anything beyond that is still a bonus.
Ha! Barbet was our best player last season imo. Best defender, fastest over short distances anyway, most aware defender with the ability to pick out good long passes.. lLooks to me like he still makes more tackles, blocks, and clearances than anybody else back there, plus he talks, directs and organises. Played every game in a long, long time.
Let's face it, other than Willock's classy goal it was pretty dire yesterday. Barbet badly needs resting. On his day he can be a standout defender but he lacks concentration at the best of times and in recent weeks his poor focus has cost us dearly. Not looking to crucify the bloke but it's pretty obvious to me that he needs a reason to sharpen up again. Dykes is also on a terrible run of form probably caused by a nagging injury. He was out-muscled again yesterday and if he can't do the disruptive target man thing then his value to the side is very little. I've lost count of the number of chances created by Adomah that he's not managed to get on the end of recently. Amos seems to have reverted to his old negative self as soon as he got a starting berth in the side. Warburton surely must take some responsibility for this as the difference between his effective appearances as a sub and yesterdays uber negative role was marked. I'm not sure why Chair is drifting out of games as much as he is. It's pretty clear he can be unsettled by close man-to-man marking but I didn't see too much intimidation yesterday just a decreasing involvement as Blackpool pressed forward.
Hope memorial went well. Wise words re the Rsss. We're sometimes in danger of acting like spoilt kids - the more we get, the more we want!
Well I was out all day yesterday... I actually forgot it was a 5:30 kick off and had booked dinner in what some would describe as a poncy Michelin star restaurant selling poncy wine Anyway my take is that in last week Blackpool took 1 point from 2 home games and we took 4 points from 2 away games...... on the brief highlights from quest we did look 2nd best but decent sides pick up points when not playing that well and that's what we've done.... so no complaints from me, we're 6th and if offered that before start of the season most of us would have taken it..... Now Warbles has 13 days to work with most of the squad in preparation for Luton.... Up the R's
Clive's match report ... Perception vs reality – Report - Queens Park Rangers News | Loft For Words (fansnetwork.co.uk)
Mmm....it's not "perception" that we're threadbare in midfield with wing backs pushed very high. It's a 100% reality. That's why we win some, lose some and draw some. It's exciting to watch and we're doing well to be in the play off positions. We do rely on our individual flare players to play well, but I suppose that's nothing new. Playing 3 at the back, with big gaps behind the wing backs down the sides and only 2 in central midfield means we'll always be getatable. Enjoyable watch nonetheless.
Just heard Warburton say they had to take Moses off at HT Saturday because of a tight hamstring! That's 3 WB's with hamstring problems, clearly a demanding position. Hope they are taking good care of Albert and Kakay now!
All good points and if MW has set his stall out with this direction of play then I’m sure he will see his areas for improvement. We just need to keep improving each season - the good players will get better, the new improved players will step up and the additions will hopefully correct shortcomings. Of course you have to hope the good/better players don’t get snaffled along the way, but that’s a factor of Championship football you have to accept and overcome too. Nobody said it was easy - so supporting the club when it is going in the right direction is important (HR ). Unfortunately there’s no silver bullet in this league (unless you sell your stadium and put all your chips on #1 red and hope for the best - so no guarantees there either). As you say Col … “enjoyable watch nonetheless”. And we all deserve a bit of that and hopefully more in the future.
