Nice and quick counter attack almost leads to another goal for Edwards, saved by the keeper for a corner. The Blackpool goal has woken us up, we'd kind of fell into a slumber in this second half.
We need another goal now, to quieten things down. Lets see Bennetts speed down the right zip across for a 4th away goal, did I say that?
Sorted out the issues in time for Edwards goal - thought it hit side netting - and what a goal from Bishop. Much nervier second half, fair play in Blackpool for not giving up. Huws and Kenlock looking erratic on the ball.
Aye, brilliant ball by Chambers and Edwards with a very composed run and finish. This 4-3-3 system seems to suit us very well, lots of opportunities for midfielders to get on the scoresheet and they are taking their chances this season. Why didn’t we give this formation and style more of a run out last season? Could have saved ourselves a second season in this division.
That's better, nervy spells as you say, but when did we last score 4 away? Lets see this out and a nice trip back to Suffolk!
Also not to take anything from a professional and emphatic away win, but I wonder how much the players are benefitting from no supporters being in the ground? There was a sense that this squad were relatively weak mentally and when the pressure was on. Of course we started well last season, but without the supporter pressure - we look a lot more comfortable passing the ball around our area and looking to keep the ball on the ground more. I get the impression a nervy Portman Road or jeering opposition crowds would make those patterns of play a bit more stressful to execute for our players. Still, a very good match and it’s excellent to see our midfielders adding goals to their games.
Unbeaten, great goal difference and top of the league. We can be optimistic and hold heads high. Well done all, and for heavens sake, stay fit!
Great result and fully deserved, other results have gone our way so it should be a happy bus on the long trip home.
Great result, would just like to see our CF score!! Bigger tests to come but you can only beat what's in front of you, so credit to the boys!!
Another win for the lads. First half started with Blackpool pressure but we grew into the game after ten minutes. We began to impose our will on Blackpool and our passing and movement was causing them problems. We scored 3 great goals and went into half time happy. Second half started the same as the second and we looked to be coasting until Blackpool scored. We then went up a gear and got on the front foot a bit more. A fantastic cross field diagonal ball from Chambers, one of many so far this season, landed nicely for Edwards and our fourth goal was scored. This put us back in control and relieved some of the nerves. Blackpool still pressed for another goal but we did enough to see the match out. Holy - good all round performance although he did kick the ball out of touch a bit too much which conceded possession too cheaply. Kenlock - a better game from Myles today but he still lacks confidence. Not attacking enough at times when good opportunities to drive or play forward were not taken. Wilson - another no nonsense game from James. Nsiala - rock solid at the back. Chambers - is playing like someone who doesn't want to lose his place in the team. KVY will have trouble getting in the team if Luke keeps playing like that. He is getting up and down the pitch well, playing some fantastic long passes in behind and getting into back post areas to score goals. You really can't ask for more from his play at RB. Huws - a big presence in midfield size wise he was guilty of way too many poor passes today. He did contribute well enough overall though, just needs more match sharpness. Andre 'Pirlo' Dozzell - pulled the strings from his deep lying position yet again. I couldn't care less if he doesn't score so long as he plays like that. His role is clearly not to get forward into scoring positions and that's fine with me. Bishop - more confident running with the ball, as shown when he was put through on goal and turned his defender inside out before scoring. Edwards - clearly a better player on the left of a three and more effective than Sears. Sears is a bench player now. Hawkins - held the ball up and brought others into play. I'm not sure he's in the team to score goals but he's helping the midfield find space to score instead. Not selfish like Norwood and this is complimenting our play, much more of a team player. Judge - probably contributed the less..again. I can't really see a place for him in the team if everyone's fit. Bennett had a bright debut, Jackson lacks game time and is off the pace. What did I learn from the game today - Chambers is doing very well at RB. Kenlock and Judge are weak links. Huws and Jackson need game time, both off the pace. Bennetts will do well. This is not our best eleven and we still looked dangerous. Enjoy your evening gentlemen, Ipswich are on the rise!
I'd also like to think that we are being coached with a clear style of play for once. Easier to execute without fans maybe but it finally looks like the players know their role in the team and what our game plan is.
Well done lads, let’s just keep this momentum going.A slow feed in of players coming back from injury and (although it’s early days)we’ve got to hope for the best at getting out of this Division(from the right end!).
Agreed San Diego, there is definitely more of a discernible style of play and we look more confident on the ball. I think the consistent formation and minimal rotation (injuries aside) are helping. The defence looks much more organised and competent at the back. The midfield has incredible balance. Dozzell has rightly been identified as performing a quarterback role in the team and thankfully the likes of Bishop and Edwards have made the most up top. Still a bit nervous about facing tougher opposition in this league though. Ultimately, it is what outdone us last season.
We move the ball and retain possession better at the moment so I'm actually thinking we may do well against the better teams, as they will not sit back and suffocate the space. We are also managing to play out of tight defensive areas without me crapping my pants now, so that's good. We hoof it in panic far less and it's noticeable.
