If not premier league league goal line technology, why can't the 4th official check a video screen and relay back to the ref? They could have a 1 minute time limit on it so it doesn't take too long, at least obvious ones like yesterday would then count.

Shocking defending for their late goal. Perch in the middle of nowhere, ball watching

Boy that was a long day and I can indeed confirm Blackburn is as grim as ****.

We absolutely flew out of the blocks, the high press working time and again as Blackburn made mistake after mistake and we spurned chance after chance. I don't think they got out of their half for the first 10-15 minutes. Then it all changed. Blackburn seemed to give up trying to play out and just sat back and waited for us to make mistakes hoping for the odd break out - a bit like us under JFH. And we gave them their mistakes. Overhit, underhit, misplaced passes interspersed with bad decisions. It all became very scrappy and we lost our initial intensity as we played Blackburn right back into it and it became more even as our chances dried up and Blackburn had a couple of sighters themselves. Second half we became less wasteful in possession and pressed on for the win. I thought it was only a matter of time till we scored such was our dominance. I don't think you can underestimate the effect on the game dynamic if Conor's goal had stood. 1-0 down they would have had to come out and at us and I think we'd have ended up comfortable winners. As it was they continued to hang on and sucker punched us at the death.

No real stand out performances one way or the other. Smithies was commanding as ever when he needed to be. Furlong was maybe a bit ropey but nowhere near as bad as some are suggesting. Bidwell was excellent defensively but had no joy going forward. Their right back was just too good and I can't recalling one succesful overlap down that side. I thought Ned, Lynch and Perch were generally solid in the centre although Perch did throw in his mandatory reckless lunge on a opponent going nowhere for which he got carded. Yellow was right, although I'd like to see a replay, but in a more charged atmosphere, especially away from home, these can get reds. Manning was very hit and miss. He ceded possession a lot with overambitious passing and his set pieces were poor. But I love that he never hides and he'll only get better. Luongo hit and miss too. He needs to start putting some of these chances away. Pawel and Mackie much of a muchness really. They did their usual harrying and chasing down of every lost cause but it wasn't their day. It was the right decision to hook Mackie and maybe LuaLua should have come on for Pawel at the same time. A fresh pair of legs to run at a defence firmly on the back foot should have been considered earlier imo. Conor didn't get much joy on the left. As I say they were pretty solid down that side, but when he came central he was threatening and always busy. Early days I know but he linked up well with Smith and I'm looking forward to see how that partnership develops. When Smith came on my initial thought was that he was quite cumbersome and that the prospect of him and Mackie in the same team would have a few reaching for the smelling salts. But he seems an "intelligent" footballer with at least half an eye on the bigger picture and won everything in the air. A couple of tidy touches aside the game passed Ravel by. He needs to get up to full match fitness pdq. We need him to get up to match fitness pdq. This game was crying out for a touch of quality. Welcome to the Championship.

Time to put my Captain Obvious hat on. We should have won this. We have to be way more clinical in games when we have the upper hand. We spurned too many chances against Reading and Newcastle when we were in the ascendancy and bossing the game. We got what our overall play merited in those games. We didn't yesterday and while our profligacy continues this is always the risk we run.

    Here's Clive's match report ...

QPR left cursing a linesman in Lancashire again – Report

Sunday, 5th Feb 2017 15:10 by Clive Whittingham

A real sense of déjà vu on Saturday as QPR slipped to an undeserved defeat to an Owen Coyle side in Lancashire thanks largely to an obviously incorrect decision from an assistant referee.

There’s something about Queens Park Rangers playing games in this part of the world against teams managed by Owen Coyle that turns assistant referees into incompetent, window-licking morons, incapable of finding their own arse with both hands or identifying the blatantly obvious when it occurs right in front of their face.

Joining Bob Pollock in the hall of horrors this week is Tony Peart. Or, perhaps, some random member of the Blackburn branch of the Royal Society for the Blind on whom Tony Peart had played a cruel trick earlier in the day, quietly swapping the guide dog for a flag without the poor bastard noticing and shoving him off in the direction of Ewood Park.

I actually think that's unfair on Perch. Lynch was man marking the player who scored. Perch had a look around and stayed in that position just in case the pass into the box came to the front of the box to be struck by an oncoming player. Lynch lost the striker or failed to get in front of him and that's that. I wouldn't say it was Perch's fault.

Fair comment. Perhaps I was hard on Perch. The scorer certainly exploited the space left between Perch and Lynch

QPR striker talks about disallowed goal against Blackburn Rovers ...

    • Washington sees 'goal' wiped out against Blackburn
    • Striker sees header disallowed by officials
STRIKER Conor Washington has spoken about his ‘goal’ against Blackburn Rovers at the weekend.

The QPR forward looked to have put the R’s ahead at Ewood Park on Saturday when his header in the 61st minute rattled the crossbar before appearing to bounce down across the line.

However, the effort was ruled out and Rovers eventually went on to win the match 1-0 thanks to a stoppage time winner from Sam Gallagher.

“It’s so disappointing, I was fuming at the time,” Washington told www.qpr.co.uk.

“I couldn't see the actual ball as it was behind the goalkeeper, but I could tell from his reaction - combined with how close he was to the line - and watching the ball come down behind him that it must be in. I think the officials were the only ones in the stadium who didn't think so.

“It changed the whole complexion of the game as I couldn't see them coming back from that. That’s the most annoying thing for me, it meant we didn't win the match.”

That would gave seen Washington notch his third goal in as many games with the 24-year-old hitting a purple patch in front of goal in the past week or so.

However, despite the disappointment of returning from Lancashire empty handed the former Peterborough frontman found plenty of positives to draw on.

He said: “What we can take from it was the performance and the work rate and the chances we created.

“It was an absolute kidney punch to lose it in the last minute especially after dominating and playing so well.

“Every away game in the Championship is tough, even going to Blackburn who are in relegation zone. So for us to go there and assert our authority and dominate the game like we did is a real positive.

“The only negative is maybe from a game management point of view we haven't scored in 85 minutes and had one disallowed so maybe it was time for us to shut up shop and take an away point.”

There is little respite in a busy February though, as QPR host high flying Huddersfield Town at Loftus Road this weekend.

The Terriers are going well under boss David Wagner and are fourth in the Sky Bet Championship table.

But having turned in performances against Reading, Fulham and Newcastle in recent weeks Washington is hoping playing one of the sides in the promotion shake-up will suit the R’s.

“They are a really good side,” he continued. “It will be interesting to see how they come and play against us as I cant see them changing too much and that could play into our hands. Against the teams that seem to have more possession we seem to enjoy it.”
