That's Steve McD on vocals- decent chap, modest, grounded. personable at a time when many on the Hull music scene were pretentious buffoons, footgazers, star struck talentless Avenues types desperate for fame. He used to knock around with two bonny lasses who had a Roxy Music look (leopardskin strapless dresses ) at the Welly disco on a Friday night around 79-80 period. This was when punk munter lasses where the norm. Or female grebo lasses. As for the drummer, he was a sneaky regular in the lasses' bogs at Spiders in the early 80s. Don't ask me what he was doing there. Happy Hour? _
The drummer Stead was a year below me at Cottingham high, went with them when they were booked to play at Welly club but when we all turned up wouldn't let them play because Stead at the time was only 14. Never did get to see them play as a band.
As far as I can recall, the 'leopard-skin girls' were daughters of a woman I know. They live/d in the Avenues...
I don't know if I ever caught their names. One was short and dumpy - Steve's girlfriend and her sister was taller, slim and very good-looking - that right? I didn't know him, but he was in Blue Kitchen, Roland Gift's first band.
Did get see them a couple of times , though can't remember where, still got the EP somewhere. For a local band at the time they were pretty good. One point worked at the same place as young Stead, came across as a nice kid, and genuinely into music. Think he tried a bit at promotion, got Dr and the Medics just before they hit the big time and lost money on the gig ?
https://twitter.com/jamajestical Great version of Happy Hour in that hotel room 1.7m views so far. Do the math.
Sounds about right. PL when most lasses were Lg2. Saw Blue Kitchen a couple of times, featuring Peanut who used to lark cricket on Costello before he punked out. Same applies to Dave 'Man' McSherry of Fila Brazilia. Apologies to all those wanting to read of how well our pre match warm up is going.
Only Dr and the Medics gig in Hull i remember around that time was at Hull Uni when Spirit in the Sky had recently come out and he wouldn't off had anything to do with that ? He was into his music of course as were his 2 older brothers, the oldest of which was also in the Luddites when they first started off.
Pretty sure it was at Tower - hardly anyone turned up and as you say a year later with their, 'hit' at Uni ... Blackburn's warm up will include stretching ...
Can I be the first to say that, don’t get me wrong I hope he comes good, but on what we’ve seen so far Pugh is a waste of a loan spot?
